Position SummaryThe Salvation Army Hibbing Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners.The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving lunch to participants Monday through Friday.$16.00/hour, 25 hours/week107 W. Howard St., Hibbing, MN 55746Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Prepare meals and handle and store food following safety and health standards. Meet the special dietary needs of participants as directed. (55%)
- Provide meal service in a welcoming, dignified manner. (20%)
- Clean and sanitize utensils, dishes, cookware, serveware, equipment, and kitchen and dining areas. (10%)
- Assist with meal planning using ordered and donated food items to minimize food waste. (10%)
- Assist with meal prep and cooking for special events and meetings. (5%)
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification is required.
- One year of relevant experience is required.
- Must pass background checks.
Competencies
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, especially with participants of diverse backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines, and best practices.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, scrubbing, food preparation, and cooking.
- Ability to use PC and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
- Must stand for most of the shift with some walking with continuous bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, stooping, and frequently moving hands and arms.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person.
- Not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
