Founded on the steps of St. John's Lutheran Church in 1985, Saint John's Program for Real Change has helped more than 30,000 women and children transform their lives from poverty and dependence to confidence and self-sustainability. Dedicated to the eradication of homelessness once and for all, thisup-to-18-month comprehensive residential program provides families with the tools they need to address the root causes as well as the symptoms of homelessness: mental health therapy, drug and alcohol counseling, life skills classes (anger management, parenting, budgeting, positive thinking, healthy relationships and more), a path to a high school diploma and Employment Training. The Female Community Reentry Program (FCRP) allows eligible offenders with serious and violent crimes committed to State prison to serve their sentence in the community at a FCRP as designated by the Department, in lieu of confinement in State prison and at the discretion of the Secretary. Sacramento, CASCHEDULE Thursday- Monday, Day ShiftAbout the Position…Under the supervision of the Program Director, the cook is responsible for food preparation, leading the kitchen crew, maintaining health standards, and proper food storage.You'll be responsible for…* Assist with food preparation, cleanliness, and adherence to health codes and regulatory guidelines for a residential facility.* Supervise the preparation of assigned meals for the on-site program participants.* Ensure all meals are prepared in accordance with approved menus, that meals are served on time, and keep track of the number of meals served to residents; keep culinary records.* Tests all food prior to serving and retains a sample of each meal for 48 hours to determine possible food contamination.* Supervise participants assigned to work in the kitchen.* Maintain high health standards including cleanliness, sanitation, and wearing hairnets and/or caps and gloves in food preparation and serving areas.* Ensure that equipment is in good operating condition and that temperatures are within proper standards, be constantly aware of fire and safety hazards and report repair/maintenance needs to Facility Manager.* Be familiar with State of California/ Sacramento County Health Codes relating to the operations of a commercial kitchen and ensure compliance.* Label, date and store all left-over food in accordance with sanitary food handling requirements.* Always maintain professional standards with food preparation and handling, as well as maintaining a high level of good housekeeping.* Follow procedures for dispensing, retrieving, and counting all eating and cooking utensils during and after meal periods.* Receive and safely store all deliveries, maintain current inventory on all commodities and stored goods.* Ability to be sensitive to trauma and gender while interacting with clients.* Must follow safety rules and be familiar with IIPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Program).* Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.You must have...* Fluent in English language (spoken and written)* An incredible passion for our mission* ServeSafe Manager or Food Handler Certification.* A current CA driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required.* Ability to work well in a team environment.* Experience working with a female population is preferred.* Must be able to pass a criminal history background screening (Live-Scan)* Maintain a yearly CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and Tuberculosis test results.* Not currently on probation or parole.
