Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor. Essential Functions
- Prepares and cooks food in accordance with the menu, including any special diet menus;
- Operates standard cooking equipment such as ranges, mixers, food choppers, deep fryers, and refrigerators;
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of cooking and serving materials and equipment;
- Prepares plates and trays prior to washing;
- Scrubs, scours, and washes cooking utensils, ranges, preparation surfaces, mixers, and steamer;
- Orders, receives, and stocks food supplies and materials;
- Maintains the organization of the kitchen;
- Rotates materials and supplies in storage according to date of expiration;
- Ensures sanitation requirements are met in accordance with North Carolina guidelines;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and minimal experience cooking food in large quantities or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing foods on a large scale and of the use and care of utensils and equipment;
- General knowledge of food values and nutrition;
- Skill in cutting and carving meat;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and inmates assigned to kitchen duties.
