COOK POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the Cook is to provide our residents with well-balanced and nutritious meals that meet the exact dietary needs of the residents. All meals should be prepared in a sanitary and safe manner adhering to all policies and procedures of the facility as well as applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and codes while focusing on customer service and satisfaction.

  • DIETARY GUIDELINES: It is the responsibility of the Cook to meet all established dietary guidelines. Must collaborate closely with dietitians and other healthcare professionals to ensure dietary needs of residents are met.
  • FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE: Cook is responsible for complying with all relevant food safety standards to avoid foodborne illnesses among vulnerable residents. Consistent inspection and proper storage of perishable items, coupled with the application of hygiene protocols, are essential and remain a primary duty for nursing home cooks.
  • Oversees and directs workers assisting with the preparation and serving of meals.
  • Cook trains new employees
  • Cook prepares and cooks assorted items according to menus, special dietary or nutritional requirements, or numbers of portions to be served.
  • Cook cleans, cuts, prepares, and cooks meat, fish, or poultry to a safe temperature.
  • Cook washes cooking equipment such as pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other pieces.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and functional operation of equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas by routinely cleaning and inspecting each piece.
  • Cook develops, compiles, and maintains food records regarding use and expenditures.
  • Prepare all foods adhering to all NY State codes and regulations for sanitation, storage, and temperature.
  • Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes.
  • Adhere to all facility and department policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Ensure all legal requirements and obligations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, NYS Health Code, etc.) with the operation of the kitchen are adhered to.
Requirements:
  • Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 years' experience as a cook in a health care setting
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible.
  • Exemplary customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
