Assists in developing and implementing procedures and programs related to discipline and tribunal hearings, designed to promote a safe and orderly learning environment. Assists school administrators and staff with effective practices, procedures and programs for improving student discipline and reducing suspensions. Develops and implements Alternatives to Out of School Suspension Programs and In School suspension programs. This position reports to the Executive Director of Student Discipline, Prevention, and Intervention.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Coordinates the Student Disciplinary Process and conducts Student Disciplinary Hearings. Prepares tribunal appeals and assists with the day-to-day operations of the Tribunal process (processing tribunal requests, scheduling, alternative school assignments and exits, addressing questions from administrators, notices to parents and staff, Infinite Campus Tribunal data and reports, etc.).Analyzes discipline data and recommends appropriate positive behavior supports, best practices, and interventions. Identifies resources, best practices, and programs for improving student discipline, building positive relationships and decreasing exclusionary practices.Provides assistance to school administrators and other staff members regarding school law, court decisions, best practices, and procedures relative to student discipline. Provides advisement to students, parents, and other stakeholders relative to student discipline procedures and due process requirements. Collaborates with the Department of Safety and Security, external agencies, and community entities on issues relating to student discipline and safety.Ensures that the Clayton County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct and other related materials are current and reflects changes in laws, school system policies, and other interpretive guidance. Prepares and submits Discipline, Tribunal, and Board Safety Reports as requested by the Supervisor.Facilitates appropriate educational placements for students who are under a disciplinary order from another school district and seeking enrollment in Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS), have been incarcerated, suspended, temporarily expelled, or charged with designated felony, upon their return to, or transfer to CCPS.All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:Master's degree required. Juris Doctorate Degree preferred.Minimum of four (4) years of general and supervisory or leadership experience in a K-12 educational setting, student disciplinary hearing officer, or adjudication process experience required.Requires inter-division and District coordination; makes decisions and recommendations that may affect the District employees, students, parents, and constituents.Valid driver's license required.Analytical: Supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; independent judgment is required to review and approve major recommendations. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; occasionally requires contact with officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.Requires regular, frequent contact with external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance;Responsible for supervising multiple functions with a high-level of accountability for effective operation and results. Requires excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.Frequently (more than three [3] times per week)Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Frequently (more than three [3] times per week)WORKING CONDITIONS:Normal office setting. Requires frequent travel for off-site hearings, trainings, and school site visits.PHYSICAL EFFORT:Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying twenty (20) lbs. or less.NOTE: This is a grade 29, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
