JOB SUMMARY PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Manager-Distribution Scheduling, the incumbent is responsible for providing construction inspection on assigned projects and quality assurance for the construction of high voltage electrical distribution facilities; verifying that contractor's work is being performed in accordance with El Paso Electric Company Standards and Specifications (DSO & DSU); providing inspection coverage on multiple projects; assisting project teams with construction related issues. The inspector must have a working knowledge of specific types of high-voltage distribution equipment and materials used in distribution construction.KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without a reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed.EDUCATION:
  • Two years of course work from accredited college or university in Business Administration or related field, Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 4 years or more experience required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Experience in distribution construction.
  • Distribution Lineman with Department of Labor Certification preferred.
  • Ability to plan a job and request proper materials.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, engineering design and techniques, and construction methods and standards, and equipment and tools.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects at the same time.
  • Ability to operate personal computer to include software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable in EPE software (Outlook, GIS Ops Viewer, etc.)
  • Ability to attain Hot Line Holds and be familiar with the Switching Standards of System Operations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.
  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversees contractor's construction and maintenance work on EPE distribution system.
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications, safety practices and operating procedures.
  • Act as liaison between EPE crews, contract crews, warehouse, vendors, and design staff.
  • Assists Distribution Operations in coordinating project work schedules.
  • Demonstrated understanding of distribution facilities and power delivery.
  • Complete inspection forms in an electronic format.
  • Ensure the correct installation of all equipment and material per DSO & DSU standards.
  • Coordinate work with each contractor to follow the agreed upon Engineering Specifications.
  • Inspection of multiple projects at one time.
  • Complete Inspection Test Reports in a thorough and timely fashion as each one is required.
  • Maintain an organized, well documented file by project or phase for future turnover to the Supervisor.
  • On-site contractor interface for all quality issues regarding the project and daily work.
  • Enforce all required safety rules and perform safety audits.
  • Valid driver's license and be in compliance with the Company's Driving Program policy.
  • Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
  • Perform other related tasks that are not included, but are within the context of the duties defined.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The incumbents in this classification are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and temperature changes of extreme cold weather (below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour) and extreme hot weather (temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour); and are exposed to loud noises, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils.
  • Availability to work long and irregular hours as required and participate in the Duty Men roster.
  • May require travel to Company work sites.
  • May require out of town travel.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
