Salary: $68,799.60 - $111,196.44 AnnuallyLocation : Ashland, VAJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 03400Department: Instructional LeadershipOpening Date: 12/20/2024DescriptionGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:The Coordinator for English Language Arts is an instructional leader with excellent problem-solving skills whose primary responsibility is to collaborate with the Curriculum Specialist for English Language Arts to support implementation of the division literacy plan. Specific tasks assigned may include: the development of curriculum guides and supplemental instructional resources for assigned area; evaluating and recommending curriculum and instructional resources to enhance student learning; monitoring the effectiveness of instructional practices and recommending improvements to assure compliance with division and state requirements; providing coaching and support to teachers; planning and coordination of efforts with assigned reading specialists, reading coaches, and department chairs for the improvement of teaching and learning strategies; ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Provide content area expertise and support for instructional teams
  • Ensure alignment of the written, taught, and assessed curriculum
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of the Virginia Literacy Act in order to support continued implementation
  • Visit PK-12 classrooms to monitor implementation of selected core, intervention and supplemental resources using evidence-based literacy practices
  • Analyze and use valid literacy data to identify trends across the division and within schools
  • Provide leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating professional learning for teachers, reading specialists, coaches and administrators
  • Participate in school and division-level meetings to discuss instructional challenges in ELA classrooms and offer strategies that will overcome them
  • Keep abreast of current trends of instructional methods and research and share related information to the content area
  • Provide leadership in developing and updating division-wide assessment processes and Student Reading Plans
  • Communicate the shared HCPS literacy vision
  • Develop systems and provide technical support for literacy instruction, intervention and assessment
  • Perform related work as assigned
Qualifications: KSA's, EducationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Extensive knowledge of PK-12 literacy development and effective instructional practices in reading, writing, oral language, and literature; Outstanding leadership and communication skills; Strong ability to collaborate; Ability to collect, analyze and respond to data; Experience in developing aligned curriculum and instructional resources; Proven ability to coach and support teachers; Skill in developing and leading professional learning for a myriad of groups; Demonstrated command of Standard English, both spoken and written.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required: Postgraduate Professional Certificate; Endorsement in applicable subject area; Master's degree; Minimum three years of recent successful experience as a classroom teacher, administrator, or supervisor in the endorsed subject area; Valid Va. Driver's License.Preferred: Endorsement in administration and supervision and/or curriculum and instruction. Must have the ability to manipulate or handle controls, objects and other materials including the ability to reach with hands and arms. Frequent personal contact with administrators, literacy leaders, classroom teachers, state and professional organizations and the community is required. Requires cooperative, tactful, and discrete communication.Travel to school sites throughout the county is common and periodic state or regional travel, including overnight stays is required. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required.
