The principal has primary responsibility and accountability for establishing his or her school as a high-quality, high-expectations academic center with a focus on personalized instruction, professional support for teachers, and school-wide practices that lead to measurable results.The Cleveland Metropolitan School District has developed standards of excellence that the district applies to all parts of the organization inclusive of schools, principals, school leadership teams, networks, and central office. Like our city, the Multilingual Multicultural Education Office is a diverse team united by a fierce commitment to helping all our educators achieve their goals for CMSD students.The Coordinator, Family Engagement & Student Support will provide key support to the Multilingual Multicultural Office and provide support to projects that must be carried through for the successful completion of the District's Multilingual Multicultural Office's priorities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in providing orientation to new language minority parents upon registration or enrolling their child/children in the District
  • Assist language minority parents in the resolution of parents concerns and links families to available community and District resources
  • Describes and explains special education, school choice program services, testing program and bilingual education program services offered by the school District.
  • Works cooperatively to encourage, recruit and assist parents, caregivers and community representatives to provide meaningful support and interventions to meet the academic and non-academic needs of students and families as they relate to the CMSD Transformation Plan
  • Serves as a communication link between the Multilingual Office, school and community
  • Provides community outreach through District Parent Meetings, Community Forums and other parental activities, e.g., Open Houses and Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Oversees data collection and evaluation by keep accurate records and logs of all family and community contacts and interventions
  • Assists with the collection of data to monitor success of family and community engagement efforts at CMSD both quantitatively and qualitatively to demonstrate effectiveness
  • Supports schools and other District offices' parental engagement activities to enhance participation of language minority parents
  • Assists and collaborates with other District offices and attend meetings to maximize services for communities
  • Assists and collaborates in the development and translation of District educational materials, brochures, announcements, etc. to maximize services for bilingual parents
  • Coordinates citywide parent/community activities
  • Provides instructional leadership, including concrete methods for successfully raising student achievement
  • Collaborates with teachers who need support with student engagement in the classroom
  • Collaborates with staff members to successfully establish and reinforce expectations/routines
  • Leads the relentless pursuit of student achievement
  • Designs and implements parent training sessions
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Director of Multilingual Multicultural Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of lesser education and relevant experience
  • Multilingual Education experience preferred but not required
  • Successful project management experience
  • Bilingual oral and written communication skills (English and Spanish)
  • Experience working with parents and children in school settings
  • Leadership qualities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with District and community resources
  • Proficient computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office
