Coordinator for Events and Social Media Job no: 492913 Work type: Staff Full Time - Full Year, Temporary Location: Lewiston, ME Categories: Equity & Inclusion Title: Coordinator for Events and Social MediaPosition Purpose: The Coordinator for Events and Social Media for the Student Center for Belonging and Community will offer event and social media coordination, planning and support to all events of the center. The Coordinator for Event and Social Media will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date event master calendar of SCBC events, maintain a process for flier development, and maintain a regular online social media outreach strategy. Additionally, the Coordinator for SCBC Events and Social Media will be responsible for the outreach, promotion, and management of the center's social media platforms for event and programmatic promotion through Instagram, Bates Engage and TeamUp. The Coordinator will serve as the SCBC's representative for the monthly Campus Partners Social Media meetings. The Coordinator for Events and Social Media will collaborate with center staff members to develop a social media strategy for upcoming affinity celebrations and cultural awareness days and months. The Coordinator will maintain an up-to-date calendar and system for promotion of Awareness events as they relate to the work and values of the SCBC. The Coordinator for Events and Social Media will also be responsible for maintaining the SCBC's event historical records through photo taking at events, ensuring participant photo consent at each event, participant sign-ins, headcount, and/or registrations. The Coordinator will also be responsible for sending out event reflection/feedback forms to participants after each event. This position will be for a temporary term of 2 years. Job Duties:
  • Oversees and maintains the SCBC social media and online outreach strategy to promote SCBC events, awareness events, etc.
  • Works closely with the SCBC staff on developing new and inclusive programming and social media initiatives that appeal to a diverse student population.
  • Leverages the Bates Engage student engagement platform, based on Campus Groups, to maximize the student experience and enhance office efficiency.
  • Assists the SCBC team with efforts to establish clear outcomes associated with programming and develop methods of assessment.
  • Holds both traditional and non-traditional office hours (after 5:00 pm and weekends when needed) to meet with interested campus stakeholders and students. Given the nature of this role, non-traditional hours will be acceptable and normative to this position.
  • Collaborates with the SCBC team, student staff, and campus partners to build strong communities that celebrate difference and support all students in their academic and personal success at Bates.
Office Support
  • Foster an open, welcoming, and fun center environment for students, families, and colleagues.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for social media requests and SCBC event management.
  • Serve as the primary responder, with support from the Assistant Director of LGBTQ+ programs, to email and phone inquiries for SCBC events and programs.
  • Provide up-to-date, timely information utilizing social media and other resources to publicize events.
  • Assists with managing the SCBC email and responding, with support from the Assistant Director of LGBTQ+ programs, to/triaging inquiries.
  • Assists with triaging student club space requests, with support from the Assistant Director of Operations, that are submitted via Bates Engage and the Event Management System (EMS).
  • Support the reserve spaces for SCBC events and communications with outside agencies/collaborators.
  • Provide logistical and programmatic support to the SCBC team.
Minimum Qualifications:Education
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate or Bachelor degree is preferred.
Experience
  • Qualified candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience or provide a portfolio of examples of work they coordinated and/or created marketing materials for. Paid and unpaid experience is equally considered.
  • 1+ years of experience in a higher educational setting where student supervision and/or collaboration integral to the position.
  • Experience managing extracurricular and co-curricular college programs and events is preferred but not required.
  • Student leadership, student activities preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting young adults from minoritized groups, including students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, first-generation-to-college students, and low-income students.
  • Ability to design, implement, and support evening and weekend programming tailored for students with diverse identities.
Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, Power Point, WordPress [website], Google docs, email and calendaring.)
  • Ability and willingness to travel (by car, air, train or bus) domestically and as needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, and other non-traditional schedules.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for student support programming.
