This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules.Position PurposeThis position is part of the Student Wellness Services team and reports to the Director of Student Wellness Services. This position is designed to implement the day-to-day efforts of the Washington State Opioid and Fentanyl Prevention and Education in Higher Education Bill and is responsible for education initiatives to reduce harmful use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. This includes, but is not limited to, providing project leadership, collaborating with campus and community stakeholders, delivering primary prevention, outreach, and education efforts for a diverse student population, as well as writing program progress reports and reporting data. In addition, the incumbent coordinates efforts across campus that focus on education and prevention of substance misuse broadly among college students, including students who have violated campus drug/alcohol policies.Nature and ScopeEssential FunctionsPartner with stakeholders to develop and implement work plans and objectives.Conduct needs assessments and surveys as needed to identify any substance abuse and misuse priorities and gaps in services that need to be addressed.Formulate action and communications plans to deliver key messages to students, staff, and faculty, including raising awareness about clinical support and prevention resources.Engage in campus outreach to deliver training, disseminate communication materials, increase mental health resource awareness, drive service referrals, and increase campus action on identified substances, stimulants, and opioid prevention activities, including purchasing and distributing test strips and naloxone.Participate in relevant campus work groups and contribute to resource assessment reports.Research, develop, and disseminate prevention and referral information to students, staff, and faculty.Provide substance abuse prevention education to students; may provide training to staff and faculty.Develop educational materials and communications to reach students, staff, and faculty using a variety of communication tools and social media platforms.Collaborate in the development of and adherence to campus policies and procedures.Maintain complete and accurate records as required by the Opioid and Fentanyl Prevention and Education in Higher Education Bill.Identify and balance the campus needs in terms of awareness, advocacy, and education regarding the scope of substance abuse and mental health related problems.Prepare and deliver programming for students to address gaps in knowledge and services.Provide support across the college by speaking in academic program, consulting with faculty, and collaborating with Residential and Dining Services, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Academic and Career Advising, Athletics, and other student affinity groups to foster a culture of student well-being and success.Provide effective networking, collaboration, and consultation on student substance use/abuse issues by giving workshops, leading discussions, and providing information to staff offices, student organizations, academic programs, and others as requested.Assist in the development and maintenance of professional relationships and resources in the off-campus community; maintain a current referral file.Design and implement research efforts evaluating the effectiveness of interventions aiming to reduce the harm associated with substance use and abuse.Additional DutiesKnowledge Skills and AbilitiesSkill in developing educational materials and delivering programming related to substance abuse prevention and awareness.Skill in research design and statistical analyses and ability to conduct needs assessment, collect information, and write reports.Ability to identify substance abuse and misuse priorities and gaps in service and formulate recommendations.Knowledge of and familiarity with a wide range of therapeutic modalities.Knowledge of and familiarity with local community resources, support networks, and referral options.Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team, stakeholder groups, students, and faculty.Leadership ability and group facilitation skills.Understanding of multiculturalism and ability to work effectively with students and staff who are diverse in race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, and veteran status.Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.Ability to be a professional, credible, and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.Willingness and ability to act ethically and be socially responsible.Ability to transport materials to and from various sites on campus, including bending, stooping, walking, and lifting and moving boxes of materials and group supplies.Skill in using standard office equipment and software, including Microsoft 356, databases, and presentation software.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to create and maintain files and recordsStrong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to communicate in a courteous manner.Skill in using a variety of communication tools and social media platforms to disseminate information.Minimum QualificationsDesired QualificationsMaster's degree in Behavioral Science, Public/Community Health Education, or related field or Bachelor's degree in related field with three consecutive years of relevant work experience or five years of consecutive years of relevant work experience in substance abuse prevention and education.Experience specifically in the area of harm reduction and substance use/abuse issues.Conditions of EmploymentMust provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.
