SummaryDevelops and administers individual and small group programs to promote employee health. Promotes wellness and fitness programs to employees through active, ongoing communications and service. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of onsite fitness center promotions, member education, specialized exercise programs for various health levels, quality management, facility safety, and vendor services. Assist with planning and coordination of health services and screening programs for employees.DescriptionLocation: Columbia, SC (Onsite)This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday in a typical office environment. You will work an 8-hour shift scheduled during our normal business hours of 8:00AM-5:00PM (flexible). This role is located at 4101 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.What You'll Do:
  • Recommends, coordinates, implements, evaluates, and provides customer support for health promotion and physical fitness activities/programs gauged for beginners to advanced levels such as nutrition, weight management, specialized fitness for those with specific conditions, wellness fairs, health screenings, etc.) Provides instruction, consultation and service to new, existing and potential fitness center members for topics to include but not limited to fitness center policies and procedures, member enrollment and member inquiries. Delivers wellness related guidance to members through the creation and implementation of activities such as group exercise classes, biometric evaluations, biomechanical analysis, tailored workout programs, and fitness testing.
  • Maintains and distributes health education materials to employees and members. Designs wellness-related materials such as posters, bulletin boards, pamphlets, emails, webcasts, website pages and flyers. Provides targeted professional communication to members regarding programs, incentives, facility changes, and advice on activities. Research information for newsletter content and ensures proper citation rules are followed.
  • Assists Management with recruiting, selecting and establishing access for independent contractors and vendors to conduct programs. Ensures valid copies of instructor certifications, service agreements and any required supporting documentation are obtained. Assists Management with payment for services rendered and service evaluation.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory and industry standards. Performs facility safety inspections, oversees Emergency Action Plan administration and maintenance of functional first aid supplies, including Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Responsible for regulation of environmental controls and ensuring proper signage visible to meet industry standards. Coordinates with Building Services as appropriate to implement corrective action. Performs regular preventive maintenance to equipment and coordinates professional checks at planned intervals. Utilizes approved budget to ensure adequate levels of operational supplies and functional equipment are available.
  • Documents service creation methods, collects participant data and evaluates data to enhance services offered. Creates member feedback collection methods, monitors member satisfaction and improves services to enhance customer experience. Conducts research and develops/analyzes reports for department management.
To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need the Following:Required Education: Bachelor's in a job-related fieldRequired Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree in a Human Health or Exercise Science related field with 1 year of post-degree experience in a fitness center, occupational health, physical therapy, or similar setting, OR Bachelor's Degree in any other related field with 3 years of post-degree experience in a fitness center, occupational health, physical therapy, or similar setting.Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Demonstrated experience coaching for behavior modification. Ability to move up to 45 pounds regularly. Proficient in surveying methods and program evaluation techniques. Research and program development skills. Proficient with basic accounting skills. Highly proficient with American College of Sports Medicine biometric and comprehensive fitness assessment protocols. Ability to work with diverse demographics and excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to troubleshoot and be resourceful. Effective organizational, presentation, and customer service skills. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking ability.Required Software and Other Tools: Standard office equipment to include Microsoft Office. Highly proficient with anthropometric evaluation tools such as skinfold calipers, non-stretch measuring tape, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis devices, blood pressure cuff/stethoscope and weight scales. Ability to use myofascial release tools such as foam rollers, runner sticks and massage balls.Required Licenses and Certifications: Current Adult CPR/AED certification or ability to acquire within 30 days. Personal Trainer, Exercise Specialist, Fitness Specialist, Exercise Physiologist or Conditioning Specialist certification from American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Association or National Academy of Sports Medicine.We Prefer That You Have the Following: Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Health or Exercise SciencePreferred Work Experience: Bachelor's degree in a Human Health or Exercise Science related field with 3 years of post-degree experience in a fitness center, occupational health, physical therapy, or similar setting, OR Bachelor's Degree in any other related field with 5 years of post-degree experience in a fitness center, occupational health, physical therapy, or similar setting.Preferred Skills and Abilities: Basic understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Principles.Preferred Software and Other Tools: Working knowledge of Microsoft Access or other database software. Proficient with Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Photoshop for Windows.Work Environment: Onsite corporate wellness center. Continuous movement throughout the day between periods of time in a stationary position and periods of exercise. Exposure to noise, bright lights, and commercial cleaning products. Required use of heavy machines. Some travel between office buildings.
