Job Description:

The purpose of this class is to perform professional level administrative duties coordinating instruction and curriculum development/implementation for the daily operations of the Adult Basic and Adult Secondary Education unit through the Consolidated Adult Education and Family Literacy Grant provided by Maryland Department of Labor.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate's education level and/or years of experience in the field. Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.

Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Education, Psychology, or similar area, and Master's degree preferred. Three (3) years of experience teaching in adult education (i.e., adult literacy, basic literacy, GED, ESOL) required. Experience in assessment, curriculum design, instructional processes and strategies based on research in adult learning and development preferred. The ability to work evenings as needed is required.

* Coordinate a functional process within assigned College department or division.

* Implement department programs or initiatives.

* Monitor compliance with policies and procedures.

* Maintains department records and files, as required.

* Conduct and attend meetings, as required.

* Supervise, advise, and evaluate assigned staff, as required.

* Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects, as requested.

* Functions as an instructional lead for classroom and online teaching and learning. Identifies, plans, coordinates, and conducts local professional development needs to ensure learner achievement.

* Develops and implements curriculum based on AELS Instructional Standards and Digital Literacy Standards.

* Coordinates logistics of selecting, ordering, and dissemination of instructional materials and resources for instructors and learners.

* Mentors, coaches, and supports basic adult education (ABE/ASE) teachers, tutors, literacy aides and volunteers.

* Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback to instructional adult basic education staff.

* Improves instruction by researching and implementing current and best practices in the classroom and with online teaching and learning.

* Working with the Intake/Assessment Specialist, connects instruction and assessment ensuring the accurate placement of all ABE/ASE students.

* Assisting with the development and execution of the program's Data Quality Plan.

* Performs other duties as assigned based upon program demographics, enrollment trends, and the needs of target populations.

* Attends state Instructional Specialist meetings and communicates and implements pertinent information to appropriate local program staff and adjunct faculty.

* Attends state Train-the-Trainer initiatives, subsequently training local staff and adjunct faculty.
