Job Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and assessment for the development and execution of the assigned ASC Math courses. Support the development of curriculum, content and instructional materials for the assigned ASC math support courses. Provide instruction for selected sections of the assigned ASC Math courses.
  • Assist and support individual and small group consultations/instruction on academic study strategies, with emphasis on math learning strategies. (e.g., Math Assessment).
  • Assist and support development, and facilitation of individual consultations, and academic, instructional, and student success workshops, with a special focus in math. Audiences may include students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, staff, and adjuncts.
  • Collaborate with the School of Mathematics and Statistics administration, faculty, and staff on teaching, instructional practices, and supporting students' academic success and persistence.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise adjuncts, graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants, and math assistants.
  • Collaborate with RIT departments, faculty, and staff on teaching/learning practices, support of students' academic success and perseverance. Support initiatives within department, division, and university including teaching, coaching, professional development, committees, and other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours

  • Master's degree in Math, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry Engineering or Master's degree in Education, Student Development or related field in conjunction with baccalaureate in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in higher education in stem-related fields with responsibility in teaching college-level math courses, curriculum development, educational programming, or student services.
  • Experience with college-level math instruction/teaching and/or curriculum development.
  • Ability to supervise, train, support, and evaluate student employees.
  • Ability to develop student understanding of math learning strategies and academic success content.
  • Experience supporting, and being a member of a large team (adjunct instructors, student leaders).
  • Establishes rapport; builds and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external audiences.
  • Ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy, and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
  • Values and supports differences in others; ability to work with diverse populations including students with disabilities and/or first-generation students.
  • Strong communication (verbal & written), and presentation (teaching and coaching) skills. Ability to listen, analyze, and problem-solve.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences
  • General understanding of the developmental needs of college students.

  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics preferred.
  • Experience in planning and records management.
  • General knowledge of assessment practices and experience utilizing assessment data to inform practice.

This role coordinates and delivers courses, workshops, and individual and small group instruction supporting credit-bearing RIT math and science courses. This position is responsible for:
  • Managing, facilitating, and teaching Math Support courses
  • Providing group and individual consultations to enhance students' learning strategies in math and science courses
  • Administrative oversight and assessment of ASC Math Support programs
  • Teaching RIT credit-bearing math courses and collaborating with SMS faculty and course coordinators.
Responsibilities include supervision of adjuncts, graduate and undergraduate student staff. This position is responsible for the supervision and assessment of key programmatic initiatives, and partners and collaborates with colleges, departments, faculty, and staff regarding the academic success and perseverance of students. This position is part of the ASC Math and Science Support team and reports to the Assistant Director.Please note: Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
