Overview:
The Coordinator manages and coordinates the delivery of patient care within the assigned units and is responsible for the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in these areas. Maintains the operational aspects of the patient care unit in collaboration with the unit staff and multi-disciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing practice and functions within the recognized standards of care profession.
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of social, physiological sciences and their relationship to the current practice of nursing.
- Demonstrates knowledge of supervisory techniques and of the management of the services or shift.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current technology, equipment, and pharmaceuticals utilized in patient care and treatment.
- Demonstrates ability to evaluate changes in patient's condition through direct assessment, from information reported from the staff, and implement appropriate nursing interventions and/or involvement.
- Patient/Community Relations- Ensures that unit (s) are effective and responsible to patients and member of the community.Provides leadership and direction for staff in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
- Employee Relations-- Creates positive climate within unit and sets high performance standards.Justifies/maintains fiscal plan (budget) for patient care unit. Monitors patient, expenses, and operating expenses (salaries and capital expense items) and provides appropriate reports to nursing administration.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN), required.
- Masters Degree in nursing or related field, preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of satisfactory clinical experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents.
- Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
- Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding.
Licenses, Certifications:
- Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State.
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoops, bend, lift,and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
- Able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients.
- An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), and Chemical hazards.
