Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for a Coordinator of Campus Recreation. The Coordinator of Campus Recreation is responsible for assisting with the administration of an outdoor adventure program and assists in the overall management of a comprehensive campus recreation program, which also includes intramural sports, sport clubs, fitness classes, and special events. Responsibilities include managing logistics, equipment, and budgets while leading a team of student staff. The coordinator plays a key role in developing and implementing program offerings, training, risk management strategies, and marketing initiatives, all aimed at providing enriching outdoor experiences and promoting student engagement This is a full-time, fully benefited, non-exempt position who reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation.
Primary Duties:
* Assist with planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the outdoor adventure program, which includes time in the field
* Coordinate an equipment checkout service that serves campus community members and provides community members with information about trip planning and destinations.
* Hire, train, and supervise six (6) to eight (8) student workers, responsibilities to include assisting adventure trips, workshops/events, and coordinating the equipment checkout program.
* Manage a program budget of ~$200,000
* Evaluate and revise program offerings and complete trip reports and participation records.
* Manage the programs equipment replacement inventory
* Manage the departmental website relating to Outdoor Adventure
* Oversee the outdoor IMLeagues online registration process
* Manage the equipment reservation system.
* Develop and implement on campus marketing strategy for the department
* Assist in planning and coordinating student trainings
* Assist in the development risk management policies and procedures
* Assist in departmental First Aid/CPR/AED training sessions.
* Manage the university's first year experience program, Pirate Adventures
* Oversees the Division of Student Life's transportation system
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree in Higher Education, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
* Minimum two years working experience in university recreation
* Budget management experience
* Knowledge of risk management policies and procedures
* Valid Driver's License to drive a 15- passenger university van.
* CPR/AED/First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
* Experience in leading and supervising student staff
* Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's Degree in recreation, sports management, higher education, or related field
* Experience working in a higher education setting
* Experience with current industry standards and risk management standards for outdoor activities
* Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of safety and risk issues
* Ability to use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and website development
* Demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic
* Current member of industry associations (AORE, NIRSA, etc.)
* Possess a Current Wilderness First Responder certification or be willing and able to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire
* Wilderness First Aid Instructor (WFA-Instructor) certification from a reputable provider
* Industry certifications in rock climbing, paddling, and/or outdoor ethics (CWI, SPI, ACA kayak instructor and/or swift water rescue, LNT Educator, etc.)
* Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations
* Willingness to adhere to the University's core values

* Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation
