Summer:7:30 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday with a half-hour lunch breakThis position requires evening work during registration and recruiting, and providing virtual services on the weekend.This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours. Position Summary & Essential Duties The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Associate Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management the incumbent will Manage the operations of Veteran Services, including the development and oversight of all major programs and is Temple College's designated School Certifying Official by the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA), certifying all Veteran student's enrollment and benefits. The incumbent must be proficient in archival, retrieval, reporting, and dissemination of student and College information. The incumbent must be familiar with laws and regulations regarding student information, including FERPA. This position is responsible for varied duties relating to career, financial and academic advising, student contact, student registration, and/or data coordination. Qualifications (Required and Preferred)MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS): A Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of directly related work experience, or an Associate's Degree with four (4) years of directly related work experience. PREFERRED: Knowledge of Colleague software and student planning CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES: None Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, train and facilitate the functions of the VSC's staff
  • Be responsible for the development and enhancement of services for Veterans, service members, their dependents and survivors
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Military-Veteran friendly policies and procedures
  • Be responsible for certifying student class registrations for VA benefits
  • Serve as institution point of contact and processor of Hazlewood benefits
  • Supervise, train, develop and evaluate all VSC employees ensuring compliance with VA guidelines
  • Ensure successful VA audits
  • Manage and monitor the daily operations of Veteran Services; develop and implement policies and procedures for student Veterans and engagement with other departments
  • Analyze and interpret new/pending legislation and information from the Veterans Administration pertaining to Veterans Educational Benefits
  • Establish and implement short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures
  • Provide advocacy and assistance in support of student issues and challenges
  • Direct, develop and coordinate strategies and programs to assist with the enrollment, retention, graduation and employment of Veterans, service members, dependents and survivors
  • Develop awareness programs and workshops to educate faculty and staff on Veteran issues as they relate to higher education
  • Coordinate internal and external resources for student Veterans
  • Provide excellent customer service to Veterans and active duty through consistent and effective outreach via multiple channels in an effort to encourage communication, retention, and degree completion
  • Annually reconcile the Temple College catalog and programs with the VA system to ensure program participation compliance. Investigate and ensure that requested programs of study are evaluated and researched prior to certification
  • Liaise with campus offices and departments as needed to assist Veteran students, such as admissions, academic advising, financial aid, cashier, Workforce and Continuing Education and bookstore
  • Serve as an overall Veterans Affairs advisor outside of education to include providing resources to Veterans on exclusive VA job opportunities or providing contact information to organizations that assist with disability compensation related to service member injuries
  • Works in partnership with local Veterans Affairs support systems such as the Texas Veterans Commission to provide Veterans with things such as food, clothing, housing, or transportation as needed.
  • Provide general information to staff and the public regarding Veteran matters and community relations.
  • Cross train with Student Enrollment Services departments. Communicate regularly with Directors of Admissions and Records, Financial Aid and Enrollment Advising regarding student issues.
  • Collaborate in the activities connected with New Student Orientation and Student Life and Activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality based upon FERPA requirements.
  • Attend conferences to remain current and gain more knowledge on Veterans issues.
  • Assist with resolving complaints and provide options for students.
  • Perform job-related or other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light physical activity is required with occasional lifting of objects up to 15 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor setting with adequate ventilation. WORK SCHEDULE: Generally: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday with an hour lunch break. 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday.   • ANNUAL LEAVE ACCRUALS:
Regular, full-time twelve (12) month faculty and staff accrue Annual Leave as follows:
  • Years of Service: 0 through 5
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) = 8
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) = 96
  • Years of Service: 6 through 10
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) =10
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) =120
  • Years of Service: 10 plus years
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Month) =12
    • Accrual Rate (Maximum Accrual Hours per Year) =144
  • Annual leave may be accrued up to a limit of 240 hours with special provisions allowing for annual accruals above that limit. Faculty with contracts less than 12 months do not accrue Annual Leave but are provided with 20 hours of personal time per fiscal year.
    • SICK LEAVE ACCRUALS:
    Faculty and Administrative Staff: Accruals of 8 hours per month. Sick Leave may be accrued up to a limit of 1040 total hours. Faculty with contracts less than 12 months will receive accruals during the summer semester if they instruct during that time. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    • HOLIDAYS:Recognized college holidays, in addition to Annual and Sick leave accruals, include Labor Day, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Day, Spring Break, Good Friday, Memorial Day and Independence Day.
    • PAYROLL: Employees are paid by direct deposit through the last working day of the month. Actual deposits are paid on the last working business day of the month. All benefit deductions are taken at that time.
    • RETIREMENT: Temple College is one of the few community colleges in the state of Texas to be permitted Federal Social Security deductions. Temple College is a Section 218 employer.
    All regular employees are mandated by the Texas State Legislature to enroll in either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) however, ORP participation is based upon position.     • Contribution:
      • Member: Teacher Retirement System (TRS) = 8.0% of annual salary
      • Employer: Teacher Retirement System (TRS) = 7.75% of member's annual salary
  • Contribution:

    • Employer: Optional Retirement Program (ORP) = 6.6% of annual salary
  • Tax Sheltered Annuities (TSAs) also known as Tax Deferred Annuities (TDAs) are available to all employees who are eligible to participate in the TRS/ORP retirement program and who wish to participate in this program. This participation is voluntary and contributions are made from the employee's salary. A list of providers is available.
    • MISCELLANEOUS LEAVE: Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), Jury Duty, Bereavement, Deteriorating weather, and Military training.
    • WORKERS COMPENSATION: If an employee is injured on the job, Temple College, through its Worker Compensation Program, pays all authorized hospital, nursing, and physician's fees. Additional benefits may be available.
