QUALIFICATIONS

* High School Diploma or equivalent

* Experience in related area performing grounds maintenance, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training that demonstrates desired knowledge, skills and abilities

* Experience in the proper use and upkeep of specialized equipment or be willing to receive training, prior to using such equipment

* Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona State Driver's License

* Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies

* Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

* Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.

* Ability to safely use job-related hand and power tools.

* Ability to understand and follow a work schedule and written directions.

* Knowledge of accepted ground maintenance procedures and methods.

* Knowledge of modern equipment, tools, and materials used in ground maintenance.

* Knowledge of irrigation systems.

* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.

* Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.

* Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.

* Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.

* Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.

* Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Perform ground-keeping tasks and preventive maintenance to keep school grounds in safe, operable, and orderly condition.

* Mow, irrigate, and fertilize lawn areas, and trim shrubs, hedges, and trees. Rake and clean gravel.

* Cut weeds, remove undergrowth and debris, prune and trim hedges and other vegetation.

* Care for desired plant growth including planting, transplanting, and fertilizing of plants and shrubs.

* Install, maintain, and perform minor repairs on irrigation/sprinkler systems as needed. Set timers and automated components.

* Pick up trash, refuse, debris, rocks, and other unsightly items on the grounds.

* Apply fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides as needed.

* Operate various motorized and hand tools related to duties.

* Inspect equipment, before use, for safety and operational condition, and recommend repair or replacement action to supervisor.

* Lay out and mark athletic fields for related sports activities.

* Prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs as requested.

* Coordinate with site administration and athletic coaches and P.E. teachers for the purpose of adjusting irrigation schedules, field preparation and line fields for school activities and school sports.

* Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate ground maintenance safety concerns.

* Transport work-related equipment and supplies to job site as required to complete tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 75 pounds. The employee may ascend/descend ladders and walk and/or stand for extended periods. The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to noise, dust, gas and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, students and public.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Grounds Person reports to the Grounds Forman. The Grounds Person will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

INITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN: Starting at $15.65 Per Hour

WORK YEAR: 12 Months/8 hours
