GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for coordinating the donation of umbilical cord blood from the Brigham and Womens Hospital. Staff are responsible for educating expecting parents, obtaining informed consent, attending childbirth, collecting and shipping umbilical cord blood units and maternal blood samples, and all related procedures and paperwork.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Using IRB approved consent forms and center specific brochures, educates the potential donors about public cord blood banking and the differences between private and public donation.
2. Following Standard Operating Procedures of the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB) at Duke University and Brigham and Womens Hospital Cord Blood Donation Program:
Determine study eligibility
Obtain informed consent
Collect and process umbilical cord blood units following universal and standard precautions
Complete follow-up for eligible units
Record and enter confidential study information
Package and ship cord blood and maternal samples following universal and standard precautions
Maintain sterile collection room
Assemble study packets and promotional materials
Participate in internal and external quality control audits
3. Report adverse events and deviations per CCBB and BWH procedures
4. Administrative tasks as assigned by Program Manager and/or CCI leadership including but not limited to the following:
Global supply management
Education of OB/Gyn staff
Distribution of promotional and marketing materials
Budgeting and revenue tracking
Prospective donor management via cord blood donor email and telephone
Communication of program status, hours, etc. with BWH staff
Education and certification of physician and midwife collectors
Qualifications:Bachelors Degree required with 1-3 years relevant experience in a health care setting, such as stem cell donor services, clinical trials coordination or clinical laboratory technician. Specialized Cord Blood Collection training will be provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Outstanding interpersonal communication and customer service.
Experience with aseptic techniques/methods
Familiarity with Medical Terminology and Hospital procedures
Self-motivated but with the ability to work in a team environment
Attention to detail; Data entry experience
