APPLICANT LISTS MAY BE SCREENED MORE THAN ONCE. This position is a member of the Center for Health Protection, Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau, Surveillance and Response Unit. Why does the job exist? The core surveillance data entry specialist will be an active member of the infectious disease surveillance team by processing and triaging all laboratory reports on notifiable conditions sent to New Mexico Department of Health daily. This position will conduct data entry in the New Mexico Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NMEDSS) portal and assist in labeling and filing of laboratory reports and patient records. This position will reach out to facilities if essential information is missing or ineligible. The data entry specialist will also perform interstate notifications of all reportable conditions to other health departments. How does it get done? This position will triage, file and enter all infectious disease reports and conduct data entry for the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau core surveillance team. Who are the customers? Department of Health and NM incumbents. Ideal Candidate Adequate experience using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with administrative and clerical tasks including answering phones, filing, faxing and data entry. Minimal experience with surveillance of infectious diseases preferred. Ability to efficiently multi-task. Minimum Qualification Eighth grade education and one (1) year experience in computer data entry andor information systems. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
