Job Description:
Role Overview Summary of Job: NorthStar is looking for a Part-Time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practioner to work at Corewell Royal Oak and Troy pain clinic! 2 days/week, daytime hours, established, well-respected pain practice with excellent support staff. Must have Michigan license, DEA and ACLS/BLS.
  • Types of points of service: Pain clinic or inpatient pain coverage
  • Practice setting: supervised
  • Types of cases: complex acute and chronic pain patients
  • Average # of cases per day: 15-22
  • Call: average 1 call weekend/month and 2 holidays/year
  • Schedule/shift types: 8-10 hour day shift
  • Weekends/holidays etc.: average 1 weekend/month and 2 holidays/year
  • Additional Information: daytime hours, competitive wages, established, well-respected pain practice with excellent support staff, mainly clinic setting, minimal call and weekend assignments
  • EMR: EPIC
  • Credentialing timeframe: 3 months

Education:

  • minimum: graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  • current licensure in the state of Michigan
  • current DEA License
  • ACLS preferred/BLS minimum

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Care

  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients and performing physical examinations, including obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories and utilizing diagnostic imaging.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic imaging and laboratory testing.
  • Trigger Point Injection and joint injections, Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks.(can learn on the job)
  • Counsel and discuss medical treatment with patients.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Performs therapeutic procedures
  • Provide care management
  • Pain Pump management
  • Provide patient education regarding procedures and medications
  • Accurately obtain histories and physicals

Case Load Management

  • Maintain a full schedule per practice template
  • Maintain an independent case load and assume responsibility for case load coverage in absence
  • Comply with administrative policies regarding corporate compliance, billing, coding, and documentation
  • Document, code, and bill appropriately per MPC guidelines

-Maintain Professional interactions with patients and staff

We are looking for a self-motivated, hardworking, positive person who is interested in learning about and practicing multidisciplinary pain management techniques including medication management, referral to subspecialties, and becoming familiar with the biopsychosocial aspects of chronic pain. Must be willing to educate patients about a multidisciplinary treatment plan including interventional procedures offered by the group. Must be willing to learn and perform at the highest-level scope of practice including trigger point injections, greater occipital nerve blocks, medication management for complicated chronic pain patients, performing IT pump management and refills and opioid-based prescribing and treatment maintaining compliance with state laws and using best practice standard of care.
