Salary: $29.21 - $40.97 Hourly Location : Faribault, MN Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2024-054 Department: Sheriff's Office Opening Date: 07/05/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Job Summary**POSITIONS ARE OPEN UNTIL FILLED Rice County is hiring Correctional Officers who will be part of the team that opens its brand-new Public Safety Center this fall! The new facility features a podular design that helps maximize safety and security for staff and detainees. The Correctional Officer performs activities that create and maintain a safe and secure environment for the residents of Rice County, and general public who enter the jail facility. This position generates essential data and records for courts, administration, local, state and federal agencies. Examples of Duties
  • Maintains the security, safety and well-being of detainees in accordance with Minnesota Department of Corrections 2911 Rules Governing Adult Detention Facilities. Follow State Statutes and Constitutional Standards, Rice County Sheriff's Office and Jail Divisions policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a detailed and accurate jail log electronically including but not limited to all detainee activities, court appearances, medical and dental appointments, medical problems, medication dispensed, meals ordered and received, and cell checks.
  • Maintains the shift communication log sharing detailed information including but limited to detainee statuses, unit status, detainee bookings and release, safety and security concerns. Receives and records various fees and monies.
  • Maintains open and effective communication with the courts, community corrections, probation officers, social workers, lawyers, supervisors, main jail, and detainees.
  • Possesses an exceptional working knowledge of all necessary computer software programs.
  • Monitors compliance with the rules and regulations governing work release detainees.
  • Performs Intake, Central Control, Internal Movement (Rover), and Housing officer tasks daily.
  • Assists the public with a variety of services.
  • Transports detainees to/from court, medical appointments, between jurisdictions and other approved activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a high school diploma or GED, and training beyond high school that can be obtained in one year or less, and six months of related experience, or equivalent. A valid driver's license is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree in law enforcement or previous correctional experience preferred. Supplemental InformationSPECIAL CONDITIONS: Body searches and physical contact may be required with detainees.
