**Correctional Officer**Responsible for basic level correctional enforcement work in the functions of the Correctional Facility and other related activities of the assigned division. Work involves general responsibility for utilizing independent judgment and individual initiative in the interpretation of orders, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations in making decisions concerning basic correctional and technical problems and in routine and emergency situations. Manages all aspects of basic care, custody, and control of incarcerated individuals. Performs other work as requested.• Positions require the member to work on rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.• Duties are generally performed on an assigned shift, but the officer may be called upon to continue assigned duties or special work assignments on other shifts and/or at such times as directed to best fill the efficient and effective operations of the Sheriff's Office.• Work is reviewed through personal observation, inspections, and by discussion and review of daily reports for adherence to prescribed methods and procedures.• Position enforces/ensures compliance with Federal and State laws, local ordinances, and judicial compliance orders.
Rate of Pay/Benefits include:• $45,739.20/year; Salary Incentive for Education• Health Coverage, Dental/Vision, Life Insurance, Florida Retirement System, Paid Annual/Sick Leave, and Holidays.
Qualifications:- Applicants must be a United States citizen.
- Applicants must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Applicants must possess a State of Florida Certificate of Completion.
- Must pass a physical examination with drug screening.
- All applicants must submit to a background investigation in accordance with FDLE standard.
- Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee's duties for this position, to include schedules work hours, and required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs, and calls for service during times of an emergency.
- Ability to recall facts and/or information; describe persons, things, and/or events.
- Ability to read and comprehend information; speak clearly; and prepare written reports.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions/directions.
- Ability to operate radio equipment; follow radio procedures.
- Candidate must sign a two-year employment contract effective from the start date in the position.
