Works in one of three general post assignments: Booking, Pod, Medical, or Floor. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Maintains safety and security in the JailReceives, books, and secures inmates upon arrivalOversees and maintains area of assigned responsibilityConducts daily physical inspections and searches of the facilities, inmates, and visitorsSupervises inmates' activities (i.e. recreation, visitation, meals, etc.)Posts, maintains, and enforces jail rules as well as state, federal, and departmental policies and proceduresObserves inmates to detect, deter, and/or prevent self-destructive or criminal behaviorsAssists with transport of inmatesPerforms special duties as assignedMedical Assignment (in addition to duties listed above)Responds to medical emergencies and/or needs of inmates; arranges or provides treatment as neededImplements basic and advanced life support according to standing orders and state guidelinesDispenses medications as prescribed by doctorEvaluates and examines medical/mental histories of inmates; determines nature and extent of injuriesPerforms medical testing including tuberculosis and blood sugar levelStabilizes and monitors inmates before and during transport to hospitalMaintains medical charts, records, and exam roomsProvides health care instruction and counseling to inmatesAssists physicians, psychiatrist, and dentist and schedules appointmentsCoordinates efforts with public safety personnelORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPSReports directly to - Sergeant or LieutenantDirect Reports - NoPHYSICAL DEMANDS Position involves physically subduing and restraining aggressive inmatesPosition involves constantly standing and walking on concrete floors while making roundsPosition involves dragging a minimum of 165 pounds (training/recruitment mannequin) in a manner consistent with rescue and restraint maneuversPosition involves to hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear understandable voicePosition may involve working day and/or overnight shiftsENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Maximum security facility behind locked doorsExposure to individuals accused or convicted of crimes, individuals with risk of illness, and potential biohazardsMay be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
