Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. City Light is hiring an Accountant for its Cost Accounting team. As a member of the Cost Accounting team, you will assist with grants, fixed asset capitalizations, the creation of final bill cost packets, approve AP vouchers, process receipts, review and approve work orders, conduct G/L reconciliation, and support the Principal and Senior Accountants in their work. This position reports to the Cost Accounting Manager. Here is more about what youll be doing: Act as the primary contact for Procurement, AP, Payroll, and staff regarding WO issues, resolving problems promptly. Review and enter daily receipts for Gorge Inn, General Store and Skagit Lodging and create monthly accounting journal entries in PeopleSoft. Monitor and track interdepartmental lodging, SeattleIT, and credit card payments to create GA Tax Memo. Assist with grant set up with funds distribution, reclass journal entries and creation of billing packets Provide support to the Principal and Senior Accountants with capitalizing relevant costs on thousands of work orders. Assist with creation of Final Bill cost packets for Time & Material and Make Ready Work, and work with Operations on issues related to completed jobs billing. Audit and reconcile assigned accounts in the general ledger. Research, analyze and prepare various journals for financial transactions such as cost transfers/adjustments. Review and approve Work Orders (WO) in WAMS, ensuring compliance with internal procedures. Review and approve vouchers on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy between invoice, PO, and approval. Own the WAMS Approval process and develop rotation schedule for Cost Accounting team approval, including training of new staff and interns on approving work. Analyze utility needs and create work orders in PeopleSoft for proper recording of costs. Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities: One to two years of accountant level experience Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and methods in accordance with GAAP, as well as financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow). Experience with accounting software (e.g., Oracle) for daily accounting tasks. Proficiency with Excel, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP for financial analysis and reporting. Experience utilizing SQL and writing queries to pull information from databases Skill in reconciling discrepancies in financial records, comparing internal data with external statements. Ensuring accuracy in data entry, financial reporting, and reconciling accounts. Ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for business decisions. Strong written and verbal communication to explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage peak periods like month-end close. Identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues in accounting data or financial processes. Ability to manage multiple tasks, organizing records, and ensuring processes are efficient and accurate. Willingness to learn new tools, regulations, and techniques to stay current in the field. Ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments to achieve common goals.
