Occupational Therapy Assistant - IRFJob Title: Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)Location: Inpatient Rehab FacilityDepartment: Inpatient Rehab Facility, HospitalReports to: Therapy Director, VP of Rehabilitation ServicesJob Type: Full Time, Part Time, PRNJob Summary:The Inpatient Occupational Therapy Assistant (OA assists with OT in planning and implementation of OT treatments for patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility setting. This role involves implementing customized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions to develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living and overall quality of life. The OTA works closely with an interdisciplinary team including physical therapist and assistants, physicians, nurses, case managers, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists to ensure coordinated, high-quality care. Key Responsibilities:
  • Treatment Planning and Implementation: Implement and modify therapeutic interventions to improve patient's functional abilities, including activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, cognitive and emotional abilities, strength, coordination, in order to achieve their therapy goals.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Provide direct occupational therapy services, including self-care retraining, IADL retraining, cognitive retraining, therapeutic exercises, patient and family education, and use of therapeutic modalities as indicated.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient progress, activity tolerance, changes in status, and improvements in functional status in compliance with facility policies, regulatory requirements and professional standards. Maintain close communication of findings with the occupational therapist.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physical therapists and assistants, physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care. Participate in discharge planning and care coordination meetings to ensure successful discharge plan.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all state and facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards including HIPAA, OSHA, AHCA and Joint Commission guidelines. Maintain a clean treatment environment. Utilize good body mechanics and infection control measures during all patient interactions and mobility. Ensure patient safety during therapy sessions by following established protocols and guidelines. Stay current with professional practices including continuing education, licensure and certification requirements.

  • Education: Associates degree in occupational therapy assistant from an accredited program
  • Licensure: Valid Physical therapy assistant (OTA) license in Florida
  • Certification: Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Experience: Previous experience in a hospital setting preferred, new graduates with relevant clinical experience will also be considered.
