The Counsel, International Legal Affairs, position reports to a Sr. Counsel, within the Office of Corporate Counsel. This attorneys responsibilities include advising internal clients on legal matters for projects in approximately seventy-five countries, including international employment matters, international litigation and compliance, and international data protection matters, among others. This attorneys responsibilities also include providing advice and counsel on internal ethics-related investigations from time to time, working with clients and partners to prevent or resolve conflicts, collaborating with U.S. and foreign governmental agencies, and negotiating contracts.

INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Works directly with the other members of the Office of Corporate Counsel. Works closely with RTIs International Development Group, Human Resources, the Ethics Office, and other Business Groups.

Responsibilities:

Provide advice and counsel regarding international employment and workplace issues.

Management of local counsel throughout the world.

Provide advice and counsel to RTIs Ethics Office.

Provide legal advice regarding international internal investigations.

Assist business and operations groups on international business registrations.

Provide advice and counsel on International trade and compliance issues, including FCPA and export control.

Research and analyze various legal issues and render opinions to management.

Review and draft organizational policies/procedures and provide counsel on application of these policies/procedures.

Training international staff on ethics and legal issues

Draft legal agreements and other documents

Assist other members of the Office of Corporate Counsel with other corporate legal matters as needed.

International travel required

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or equivalent law degree required.

Minimum of 5 years post-JD work experience as an attorney required.

Must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state or federal jurisdiction.

Must be able to efficiently prioritize competing demands from many internal stakeholders.

Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills required.

Effective client-counseling skills, plus strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Willingness to live in, or relocate to, the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina area preferred.

Experience as external counsel (i.e. large law firm experience), as in-house counsel for an organization engaged in international development work, or as legal counsel for a US government agency engaged in international development work preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel preferred.

Proficiency with e-discovery and litigation is a plus.

Ability to communicate proficiently in more than one language is a plus.

Hiring Salary Range:$130,000-$170,000
