Student Development Specialist/Counselor Center for Careers and Transfer HV-NTP-8098 In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree required in psychology, or related field. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of one year of professional counseling experience post licensure. Employment experience in the area of counseling and outreach services in a college setting with diverse and non-traditional populations preferred. Must be Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) in NYS. Will be required to work evening and/or weekend events on occasion. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Student Development Specialist/Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling and Wellness and/or their designee and performs the following duties within Counseling and Wellness and the Student Development Unit: 1. Provides confidential, personal counseling and maintains a record for each student served. 2. Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence informed best practices and programming to foster student development, with a focus on mental health intervention and wellness, persistence, retention, and achievement of desired outcomes. 3. Supports students in developing an academic and/or personal success plan focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities to facilitate reaching personal, education and career goal attainment. 4. Assists in developing and delivering trainings for faculty and staff on matters related to multiple aspects of student mental health and development. 5. Provides informational presentations to students and prospective students about student development offices and support offerings. 6. Assists with the development and maintenance of relationships with academic departments and campus offices for the purposes of offering student support and encouraging referrals to student development offices. 7. Develops and facilitates student support groups, as needed, to efficiently and effectively address common student development concerns. 8. Assists with the development and implementation of a campaigns promoting positive mental health and development. 9. Communicates with outside social service agencies in preparation for referrals, and makes referrals where appropriate. 10. Works with Dean of Student Development to assess and address needs of Student Development offices in regard to staffing, outreach and programming. 11. Provides data and reports based on student support and outreach efforts as requested. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary of $48,000-$52,000.
