Contact Information: ...@auhsdschools.org Job Description / Essential Elements: Counselor (193 Days) Under the direct supervision of the Head Guidance Coordinator, assists with or has responsibility for the following: Responsibilities and Duties: 1.Prepare the publication of guidance materials. 2.Provide information programs for students and parents/guardians regarding college planning, financial aid and career planning. 3.Make classroom guidance presentations. 4.Provide students with information and materials necessary for the course selection process. 5.Assist with the administration of district and state mandated testing. 6.Register, program and schedule students; individually register students new to the district; provide individual sessions with incoming ninth graders to design a four-year plan. 7.Write college recommendations 8.Make class changes 9.Identify, provide assistance, track and monitor students at risk. 10.Meet individually, as requested or needed by students, in preventative or crisis counseling. 11.Provide assistance to parents, SSTs and IEP teams. 12.Refer students to outside agencies for ongoing therapeutic counseling. 13.Serve as a resource to teachers and other staff. 14.Participate in professional growth activities to update college and career information. 15.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Holds or qualifies to hold a California Pupil Personnel Services Credential; ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with students, parents and faculty and with the appropriate records; ability to with and be sensitive to the needs of young people; ability to deal politely with members of the public knowledge of rules, regulations, procedures and policies of public schools and school districts. Working Environment Environment: An Office/School Site Environment. Physical Abilities: Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. Light to moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds). Reaching, stooping, pulling, pushing, bending, walking, writing on blackboard, and keyboarding. Speech, hearing and vision emphasized. **The Education code requires that a criminal background check be conducted on all persons prior to employment by a school district to ascertain whether the applicant has been arrested or convicted of any crime.
