Summary
The County Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing at the County and supporting health and wellness in County employees.
Essential Duties
The Health Services Office is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday (with the exception of County government holidays). The County Nurse will:
Provide first aid, basic life support measures, over-the-counter medications, medical information and instruction regarding health issues; monitors blood pressure readings and weight for interested individuals
Provide medical attention to employees as well as visitors, jurors, witnesses and prisoners attending court who may become ill or injured while visiting the Court House/Government Center complex
Respond as needed to departments within the Court House/Government Center complex in emergency situations to evaluate and treat employees, and/or visitors, jurors, witnesses and prisoners attending court
Assist in investigating reports of health hazards such as noxious fumes, excessive dust or noise, etc. and reports conditions to appropriate personnel
Maintain a daily log throughout the day of visitors to the Health Services Office
Evaluate and document employee Worker's Compensation injuries and fills out an Incident Report for each incident
Make reports of injuries to the Personnel Department
Evaluate, document and complete Incident Reports for injuries to visitors, jurors, witnesses and prisoners attending court
Assist with annual employee influenza vaccination program
Serve on the Wellness Committee and coordinate various health initiatives, including blood drives
Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing (BSN)
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN), issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
Experience in the Community or Public Health field
Current CPR / First Aid certification
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to prepare and maintain good nursing records and reports
Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters
A valid driver's license is required
