Job Description:
General Summary The part-time Course Tutor for Professional Nursing courses will be responsible for facilitating Associate Degree Nursing student learning by helping to clarify specific course content, reinforce the use of appropriate study strategies, and model problem-solving skills through agroup review modality.Essential Job Functions
  • Assist students in review of subject areas, in conjunction with course schedules (based on current implementation guide), for specific Nursing courses.
    • Group review sessions are expected to be provided through the following formats
      • General question and answer
      • NCLEX-style practice questions
      • Other forms of practical application (case studies, group discussion)
      • All materials will be provided by program supervisor/Division of Nursing
  • Prepare for support sessions (remote, online and on campus) as necessary to meet student needs working with the program supervisor, Division Co-Chairs, Course Coordinators and program faculty.
  • Evaluate student progress after each session and collaborate with program supervisor and division of nursing.
  • Inform and/or consult with program supervisor if problems are encountered or the need arises for assistance relating to a specific tutoring situation.
  • Work collaboratively with program supervisor to build a cohesive support program and to respond in a professional manner to diverse student needs.
  • Maintain records of hours, students' names, course/cohorts, times of meetings, and brief summaries of the meeting.
  • Respect students' rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding dispersal of information.
  • Assist in maintaining a disturbance-free environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Monitor student activities while conducting support sessions for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Provide a general knowledge of all college services. Must be able to refer students to the correct college resource or department.
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing.
  • A current, unrestricted Massachusetts License to practice as a registered nurse. Current knowledge and experience in the nursing field.
  • Comfort with technology, remote and online learning within a learning management system and using video conferencing as a learning tool (i.e., Zoom)
  • Have a passion for and interest in supporting pre-licensure nursing students. Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the college.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of Associate in Nursing program at LabourĂ© College. Familiarity with concept-based approach to nursing education. Multilingual
  • Prior experience in student tutoring or other forms of academic support.
