Job Title: Court AdvocateJob Summary:CASES seeks a Court Advocate who is committed to advancing alternative-to-incarceration programming, The Court Advocate will support the Reframing Opportunity, Alternatives and Resilience (ROAR), for young people 16-27. The Court Advocate has a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with the ATI participants and court stakeholders. The Court Advocate will join a multidisciplinary team and will provide comprehensive support to participants for the duration of their court involvement. All team members will support an ATI model that helps young people who are at risk of incarceration build the capacity and courage to change their lives. The ATI program helps young people develop critical skills to reach education and employment milestones and transform their relationships and connection to community. The Court Advocate will promote participant success and equity through culturally competent service delivery that meets the unique needs and experiences of young people involved in the criminal legal system. With content expertise in youth development, trauma -informed care, gender-specific services, resiliency, young adult learning, and strengths-based dynamic assessment and service planning, ROAR will support participants to success. Team members will support the fundamental belief that meaningful change is possible, participant voice is critical for effective services, and creating a safe space for young people promotes skill development.Shift Hours: Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PMSalary: The salary for this role is $52,000 per year.Location Address: 4 West 125th Street, New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.Workplace Flexibility: Flexible - Staff have flexibility to complete their work day from home or another suitable space, typically after reporting to the office and/or engaging in field or community-based work.What you will be doing:
  • Collaborate with CASES ATI Intake Team as well as ROAR orientation team upon enrollment
  • Advocate for participant's continued participation in the program by appearing before the criminal/ supreme court judge to present the participant's engagement in program services
  • Develop written reports for advocacy efforts
  • Establish and maintain relationships with court and legal stakeholders
  • Conduct orientations for all new participants, ensuring comprehensive understanding of expectations and opportunities for the duration of the program as well as post-mandate
  • Support the development and maintenance of individual service plans, in collaboration with participants through addressing needs and establishing measurable timeframes to meet objectives and goals
  • Liaise between the courts and the program to ensure the team is clear on directives and expectations given during court appearances and ensure court stakeholders are kept abreast of participant progress and/or challenges
  • Conduct outreach efforts when participants require additional support to engage in services, including home visits and in-community outreach
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborative service planning as well as borough-based team meetings, supervision, and training
  • Perform crisis response services, as required
  • Work flexible hours when required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Team Leader
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree, with court experience; or master's degree in relevant field
  • At least two years of experience working with young people involved in the criminal legal system
  • Commitment to serve court-involved young people at high risk for recidivism
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred but not required:
  • Fluency in Spanish
