Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Overhead Crane Operator to join our team in east Houston. Responsibilities:

  • Performs the unloading/loading of trucks, stocking, and transferring of material with the use of a dual hoist bridge crane and/or standard forklift
  • Attends all training and safety meetings as directed
  • Performs daily inspection of crane, pendulum control unit, wire ropes, and other accessory equipment
  • Reports all deficiencies found and unusual noises and difficulties in the operation of the equipment
  • Identifies material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbers
  • Determines the weight of the material and utilizes a crane with the appropriate capacity
  • Assists and directs riggers in properly securing material on the crane before moving material
  • Advises all co-workers in the area before the movement of material on the overhead crane
  • Follows all company policy procedures, watches for potential risks in the area, and notifies management of deficiencies identified
  • Attends all training and safety meetings as directed
  • Performs daily housekeeping and organization of assigned areas
  • Assists with stock checks and physical counts as directed
  • Assists in training co-workers as requested
  • Performs other tasks as directed
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of related experience
  • Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, rigging, and ability to move large-sized and/or unusually shaped steel plates in a safe manner
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to calculate the weight of the material and read measuring tools such as a tape measure
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to traverse the distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
