Credit Reporting Specialist ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT Incumbent assists to ensure accuracy of credit reporting, investigates and responds to member credit bureau disputes, identifies trends within the credit reporting function and works with the Credit Reporting Manager and other credit union personnel to take appropriate action. Incumbent must have an in-depth knowledge of core loan and credit card servicing and origination systems and be proficient in their use. Must also fully understand and follow loan servicing guidelines as dictated by credit union policy and procedures. Maintains a thorough knowledge of lending regulations related to loan servicing and credit reporting such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act) and Metro II Credit Reporting Guidelines. Understands ramifications of errors which may subject the credit union to losses, litigation and reputation risk.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Investigates and responds to credit bureau disputes received from members and through E-Oscar (mandated electronic dispute system). Must investigate and respond in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Fair and Accurate Transactions Act (FACT Act). Corrects loan information with the credit reporting agencies and in the applicable servicing system, if needed and as applicable, ensuring all reporting is accurate and in compliance with Metro II Credit Reporting Guidelines. Currently, an average of 2,300 credit disputes are received and responded to on a monthly basis.
  • Investigates and removes invalid credit bureau inquiries caused when credit union staff erroneously or accidentally pulls a credit report.
  • Identifies trends occurring in connection with member disputes or data reported to credit bureaus. Alerts and works closely with the Credit Reporting Manager to resolve any associated issues.
  • May be called upon to assist with new release testing for the loan origination and servicing systems at the direction of Consumer Loan Administration Management.
  • Provides assistance to other credit union personnel to assist with credit bureau inquiries or concerns from members.
  • Handle calls and e-mails from all levels of credit union employees that need assistance with credit reporting disputes.
  • Handle loan repricing requests in accordance with written procedure.
  • Process employee loan rate discounts for all eligible consumer loans and lines of credit. Must also remove discounts when applicable.
  • Assist with internal desktop procedure and VyGuide procedure reviews and revisions.
  • Assist with internal reviews related to credit reporting.
  • Communicate with members directly via phone, email or letter to relay information pertaining to their credit reporting dispute, repricing request, or employee loan rate discount.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

It is required the incumbent have at least two years of proficient personal computer skills, especially experienced with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and NotePad. In addition, thorough knowledge of the loan servicing, credit card servicing and loan/card origination systems is preferred. This position requires proficient time management skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy are also a must. Knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and Fair and Accurate Transactions Act (FACT Act) is preferred.

The incumbent must have strong verbal and written communication skills as they may deal with sensitive member and compliance-related reporting issues. The incumbent must have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff within the credit union. A congenial attitude in dealing with people and well-developed interpersonal skills are preferred. Judgement is important as it relates to assessing loans or systems with credit reporting inaccuracies or errors and taking the necessary action to bring them back within required compliance with credit reporting regulations and guidelines in a timely 6 manner. Errors in judgement of corrective action required timeliness or appropriateness of action could have serious consequences for the credit union in the form of non-regulatory compliance and potential lawsuits

EDUCATION

Completion of high school and two years of college in a business-related field is required with a minimum of 2 to 3 years work experience in a financial institution, within a lending environment is required. Work experience may be substituted for college education on a one-to-one ratio. Proficient personal computer skills are a must.

As required or requested, may exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
