CREW CHIEF - UTILITIES MAINTENANCEPerforms difficult skilled trades work supervising the installation, maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer systems; does related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Field Supervisor. Continuous supervision isexercised over assigned staff.Essential Functions/DutiesSupervises, schedules, and participates in the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators in the repair, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines; discusses job requirements with and receives work instructions from supervisor; trains and instructs subordinates; operates equipment incidental to assigned work or the transportation of crew; assists in preparation of specifications for purchase of equipment and supplies; responsible for crew jobsite safety; performs daily pre-trip inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment.Maintains time and material records; prepares simple work reports; requisitions necessary materials and equipment.Required to serve on the emergency on-call rotation.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in water and sewer line construction and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the safe use and operation of common hand and power tools; thorough knowledge of the safe use, operations and preventative maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; thorough knowledge of OSHA laws that apply to areas of work responsibility; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; ability to prepare simple reports; ability to follow oral and written directions; knowledge of computer operations sufficient to enter, retrieve and manipulate data.Education/Experience/Physical Demands/Special Requirements/Additional InformationGraduation from high school or equivalent and considerable experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of municipal water and sewer utilities and related facilities, including the operation of excavating equipment and considerable supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical RequirementsThe physical activity of this position includes:Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.The physical requirements of this position include very heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Special Requirements:Minimum 1 year at a Crew Chief I position.Minimum 6 hours of approved supervisory management training upon hire.OSHA Competent Person Trenching/Shoring and Confined Space Entry certification.Basic and Intermediate Work Zone Safety and Flagger certifications upon hire.VA Grade III Wastewater Collection System Operators Certification OR Grade A Distribution System Operators Certification upon hire.VA Class A Commercial driver's license.Drug screening and criminal background checks required.Job Type: Full-timePay: $23.79 - $32.98 per hourExpected hours: 40 per weekBenefits:401(k) matchingDental insuranceHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceCompensation Package:Hourly payOvertime payYearly bonusSchedule:8 hour shiftAbility to Relocate:Abingdon, VA 24211: Relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: In person#J-18808-Ljbffr
