The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Crew Supervisor in Water and Sewer Services (Line Maintenance and Construction). Performs difficult skilled work supervising public service workers, motor equipment operators and other personnel engaged in general maintenance repair work; does related work as required. This is responsible supervisory work that involves assigning and inspecting the work of semiskilled or unskilled workers and operators in the performance of a wide variety of jobs which require technical knowledge or skill. Areas of work and standards to be met are assigned in detail by a supervisor, and the work performed is checked in process and upon completion.
Essential Functions of Position: Supervises the work of public service workers and equipment operators in street and highway maintenance, sanitary and storm sewer construction, park maintenance, water and sewer main maintenance, building repairs and maintenance, and other tasks involving the maintenance and repair of public facilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in municipal public works construction projects; general knowledge of the street, water and sewer systems for the City including location and size of mains, hydrants and valves; thorough knowledge of other special areas assigned; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; dependability.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED and considerable experience as a semiskilled worker or heavy equipment operator; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid commercial driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee. CDL class A with or without 57 restrictions. Pre-employment DOT physical, drug screening and background check required.
