Specialized and technical work in analyzing, organizing, and presenting crime data and statistics.
Work involves collecting data pertaining to crime from various sources; conducting thorough data analyses; and presenting the information in a clear and meaningful form in accordance with instructions from a supervisor. Data is gathered by studying crime and arrest reports, monitoring computerized systems, utilizing agency dashboards and Geographic Information Systems, and analyzing crime and intelligence information from local, state, and federal agencies. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions and work may be reviewed, in process or upon completion, by a supervisor or designee.
Essential Functions
Reads and analyzes criminal, intelligence, and other data from varied sources for summarizing and organizing as required.
Obtains information, as required, from federal, state, and local agencies concerning assigned research areas.
Furnishes criminal and intelligence information to department members and other agencies as directed.
Provides analytical information to assist in reviewing, analyzing, reporting, and assessing problems that may promote departmental solutions.
Manipulates, manages, queries, and summarizes raw data from MPD data sources such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Calls-for-Service Data, Records Management System (RMS) Crime and Arrest Data, and other various datasets from internal and external sources.
Initiates and maintains, in accordance with rules, correspondence with other agencies as required to obtain and transmit necessary information.
Maintains files of criminal and intelligence information. Preserves confidentiality of files and information as required.
Prepares necessary materials for reports and presentations on current crime trends and patterns.
Attends and reports results of relevant meetings and conferences as directed.
Gathers investigation crime data; ensures that it organized into tactical, strategic, and case management reports.
Assists other law enforcement agencies by participating in special programs created to secure, use, and exchange sensitive information with multiple agencies.
Assists with the distribution of information to concerned individuals and units.
Assists with creating processes and procedures for newly developed reports and training members on completion.
Contributes and assists in gathering information from available sources. Researches data and potential sources of relevant information.
Continuously keep abreast of modern law enforcement technology and analytical techniques, and make recommendations to the department, as appropriate.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 60 college credits and three (3) years experience in tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis or applied social science research for a law enforcement agency.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.

Proof of education in the form of transcripts reflecting a minimum of sixty (60) college credits or higher.
Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*. Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.
To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: copy of high school diploma or equivalent, Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree or higher.

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:
* An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
* A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR

* A recognized Professional Organization

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:

B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D.
C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission
D. Properly executed valid lease agreement
