This rewarding and vital position provides a broad range of analytical support and research for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department which includes collection, tabulation, statistical analysis and dissemination of criminal activity information, trends and patterns, through a variety of reporting and communication methods. The Crime Analysis Unit is a two-person team who works day shifts, Monday – Friday, in the office. This is not a remote or hybrid position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Collect, interpret, analyze and prepare a variety of routine to complex statistical information.
  • Utilize County and departmental management information systems, software packages, databases, word processing, and mapping programs in order to produce written, statistical, graphic and geographic reports.
  • Use data results to make recommendations regarding operations and planning.
  • Plan, organize and maintain subject matter files which may include the classifying, cross-referencing and indexing of technically specialized subject matter.
  • Compile and complete recurrent technical and statistical reports requiring sound judgment in the selection and treatment of data and in manner of presentation.
  • Undertake specific crime data and open source searches and/or recover information from standard and non-standard sources, and disseminate criminal activity information, its trend and patterns through a variety of reporting and communication methods.
  • Prepare and occasionally make verbal, visual or other types of presentations to staff and management teams, community agencies and citizen groups on crime issues in a problem solving environment.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:
  • Two (2) years of college level course work in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice or related field AND
  • One (1) or more years of closely related work experience is required OR
  • Any combination of education and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
  • Formal training and certification from a recognized crime analysis program and/or other formal criminal justice/law enforcement experience is desirable.
  • United States citizenship, lawful permanent resident or DACA recipient, and the ability to speak, read and write the English language is required by RCW 41.14.100.
  • Ability to successfully complete Pierce County Sheriff's Department background investigation, which will include, but is not limited to:
    • Reference Checks
    • Personal Interviews
    • Oral Board Interview
    • Polygraph Examination
    • Submission of Fingerprints
    • Work History Check
    • Criminal, Driving, and Financial History Checks
    • Drug Screen
  • A valid Washington State Drivers' License may be required at time of appointment.
  • ASSESSMENT PROCESS for CRIME ANALYST

You must score 70% or better to continue in the process.
  • Veteran's preference will be granted in accordance with RCW 41.04. If you are eligible to have veteran's scoring criteria applied to your assessment score, you must submit a copy of Copy 4 of your DD214 or separation/discharge documentation with your application.
