General Definition of WorkPerforms work responsible for providing police services to the public for maintaining public order and safety for the City of Cape Girardeau.
Essential Functions•Provides information to citizens concerning crime prevention techniques, security techniques and the practices required to reduce crime incidents; completes required reports; arranges for the distribution of information to the public; gathers and analyzes crime pattern data; prepares and conducts lectures and workshops; schedules and guides tour groups.•Responds to calls for police service and assists citizens.•Enforces local, state and federal laws by issuing warnings and summonses and by making arrests.•Prepares cases for presentation to prosecutors.•Assists other agencies with investigations.•Conducts safety programs for schools, clubs and other civic organizations.•Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications•High school diploma or equivalency required.•Minimum age 21.•Valid Missouri driver's license.•Must be certified as police officer by the State of Missouri.•Must obtain certifications or qualifications in Type III breath alcohol testing, speed radar operations and handgun and patrol rifle operation.•Required to meet physical fitness standards as set by the department.•Must have no convictions for felonies or crimes involving domestic violence.
Salary per hour $22.04, plus a generous benefit package.- Bi-weekly pay periods.

- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
