Town ofVernon - Department: Police Job Title: Crossing Guard Coordinator General Statement of Duties: Under general supervision of a police department supervisor, this position is responsible for supervising, training, completing payroll, and preparing schedules for school crossing guards. The coordinator also works as a liaison with the Vernon Public Schools Transportation Coordinator and other interested stakeholders. This is a part-time position, based on the school year. Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Police Department Supervisor. Supervision Exercised: Assigns locations, schedules and trains other School Crossing Guards. Essential Job Functions: Coordinates school crossing guard program including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, training and supervision of crossing guards. Ensures crossing guards receive necessary equipment. Tracks attendance, and completes weekly payroll. Purchases supplies within budget. Works as a liaison between police department, school officials, school transportation company, parents and students as needed. Communicates with crossing guards as needed. Responds to, investigates and resolves concerns or complaints regarding crossing guard activities. Performs the duties of school crossing guard when needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Regular and punctual attendance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Must be able to perform tasks requiring independent knowledge. Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English. Must have knowledge of basic math. Must have some knowledge of public safety. Able to communicate effectively and give instructions to others. Available to work any day school is in session. Ability to use a cell phone. Ability to deal with young children and teens. Able to be courteous to the public. Able to take direction. Able to supervise, communicate effectively and give instructions to others. Able to train other employees as crossing guards. Other: Must possess valid drivers' license and insured vehicle. Must have working cell phone. Experience & Training: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must pass police background check.
