Position SummaryThe Crossing Guard is responsible for the safety of children and pedestrians at designated street crossings. This individual ensures safe crossing during school start and dismissal times, and other peak traffic periods. The ideal candidate will be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong sense of responsibility toward the community's safety.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely escort children and pedestrians across streets, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
- Monitor traffic flow to ensure safe conditions for crossing.
- Use handheld stop signs or other signals to alert drivers when pedestrians are crossing.
- Maintain vigilance at assigned crossing areas to prevent accidents or dangerous situations.
- Report any hazardous conditions or incidents to appropriate authorities or school officials.
- Provide assistance and direction to children and pedestrians as needed.
- Communicate effectively with school personnel, law enforcement, and parents regarding safety concerns.
- Attend training sessions as required by local authorities or the school district.
Educational Background
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of traffic safety laws and regulations.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong observational and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and move quickly when necessary.
- A positive attitude and willingness to work with children and the public.
$20 - $20 an hour

Performance EvaluationThe employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
