SUMMARY: Assists with supervising the playground before school and during recess periods to ensure the security and safety of all students in support of District Board goals. This position escorts students safely across streets at assigned street crossings and/or intersections for the School District.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors the students during recess for correct use of playground equipment
- Instructs students on rules of playground; prevents fights and resolves conflicts
- Monitors playground to deter unauthorized visitors
- Promotes positive student behavior by setting a good example and treating all students with respect and courtesy
- Ensures student safety in both outdoor and indoor activity areas (when required);
- Monitors all playground equipment and grounds for safety
- Maintains visual and auditory awareness of events on playground
- Addresses behavioral problems and determines disciplinary actions
- Provides support and encouragement documents and reports incident provides minor first aid
- Monitors traffic conditions; stops vehicular traffic and escorts students, staff and parents across assigned
- Intersection or street crossing
- Assists students with bicycles, helmets, backpacks, zipping coats, tying shoes and minor first aid;
- Provides a supportive adult figure to listen, support and encourage students
- Instructs students in proper crossing of streets and other student related issues
- Maintain effective communications with students, administrators, teachers and parents; attends meetings as required by the school or district
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of District rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of playground supervision and monitoring practices
- Knowledge of age appropriate behavioral management methods and techniques
- Knowledge of principles customer service methods and techniques
- Ability to speak and read English Proficiently
- Skill in working with, monitoring and supervising students on the playground
- Skill in providing a safe play environment for students
- Skill in providing direction, suggestion and encouragement to students
- Skill in written and oral communications
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months' work experience prior childcare and supervision experience (Preferred)
- Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance
- Maintain requirements for access to Fort Huachuca
