The Floyd County Museum is a county history museum located in Charles City, Iowa. The museum's mission is to keep alive an active interest in Floyd County history by collecting, preserving, and interpreting materials related to Floyd County. The museum is open year-round and has a collection of over 300,000 objects. Providing unique services to tractor collectors, the museum is home to the largest archive of information related to Hart-Parr, Oliver, and White tractors.The Floyd County Museum Curatorial Assistant is responsible for a variety of duties related to the museum's collections care and general operations. The curatorial assistant will assist with museum events, day-to-day activities, guest service, and will work on independent collections projects to improve the museum's collections care. The curatorial assistant is a full-time, hourly position to be paid $17 an hour. Museum staff work Tuesday to Saturday from 8:30am to 4pm.General Duties:Collections storage organizationAccessioning of new collections itemsCataloguing items in the collectionAssisting with exhibit curationImplementation and use of a location system for collections materialsUse of PastPerfect museum softwareFront desk duties, including answering the phone and greeting visitorsOpening and closing museumHelp with museum eventsProviding resources and research to tractor collectors and other inquirersOther tasks as directedPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, or a related fieldBasic computer skills (PC & Microsoft Office)Experience using PastPerfect Museum softwareExperience working at a museum, archive, or library, whether as a paid staff member or a volunteerExperience in object handlingSocial media savvinessAbility to work in a small team and take directions when givenComfortable working independentlyThe curatorial assistant will be someone who can take initiative to start and complete projects that help the museum's collections care and general organization. He/she will enjoy researching local history to improve exhibits and object provenance.
