- To assist in providing a district-wide Health/PE curriculum infrastructure and support
- To develop programs, instructional tools, products, and direct the training of campus and district staff to support the comprehensive Health/PE curriculum
- To support district goals by assisting campus and district personnel toward innovative teaching practices that promote successful student outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, kinesiology, physical education, or related field (required)
- Master's degree (completed or in progress) from an accredited institution in education, school leadership, kinesiology, physical education, or related field (preferred)
- Valid Texas teacher's certificate with specialization in PE and/or Health
Experience:
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in Health and/or PE
- Prior experience leading Health/PE at the district level (preferred)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of the TEA's Physical Education Outcomes and applicable federal guidelines (504/I.D.E.A.), NASPE Physical Education Standards; thorough knowledge of comprehensive physical education programs and related educational principles, practices, and procedures; familiar with teacher evaluation system; ability to organize and lead curriculum development with an emphasis on developing alternatives to traditional curriculum and assessment strategies; ability to assess program needs and implement change; excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills; ability to work effectively with principals and teachers to assist with district-wide program implementation; possess skills in organizing and conducting small and large group meetings; excellent organizational skills; ability to learn and successfully implement budget preparation and accounting procedures; knowledge and understanding in health and physical education at elementary and secondary levels.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:I. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT:A. Conducts program needs assessments, and leads curriculum planning, design, and evaluation of PK-12 PE and health programmingB. Plans, develops, monitors, evaluates, and assists schools with implementing the PK-12 PE and health programC. Evaluates and selects instructional materials and equipmentD. Apply sound research-based principles to support decision making and departmental goals and actionsE. Work with staff at all levels to develop, revise, and improve the PE/health curriculum and provide leadership to ensure that teachers have access to and are using the most up-to-date research, trends, and technologies that will improve the teaching & learning of PE/HealthF. Oversee the administration of FitnessGram testing requirements including communication, training of staff, monitoring implementation, evaluation of data, etcG. Conferences regularly with staff to discuss performance; jointly develops improvement objectives to identify professional growth opportunities; assist principals in selection and monitoring of PE personnelH. Responds appropriately to situation that could impair the teaching/learning process or could threaten safety and the well-being of students and staffI. Assists curriculum content leaders and principals in the planning and implementation of instructional programsJ. Conduct structured school visits for program evaluation and conduct teacher observations as appropriateK. Facilitate and oversees the planning, execution, and evaluation of in-service and professional learning, including presenters and consultantsL. Ensure local school compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding implementation of physical education instructional programs for students with special needsM. Seeks input from stakeholders regarding department goals and responsibilitiesN. Ensures an effective, efficient, and safe working and learning environment where Health/PE instructiona takes place; in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements; and in conjunction with the District's core purposeO. Compiles and maintains records and other required documentation; Prepare oral and written reports; Make effective public presentations of program informationP. Collaborate with principals and department chairs to plan for and monitor the effective program implementation of the Health/PE curriculumQ. Recommends and oversees the development of new Health/PE coursesR. Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy; offers constructive suggestions to ensure that policies and regulations support the teaching/learning processII. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE:A. Collaborate with district and campus leaders to ensure alignment of Health/PE instruction throughout the districtB. Participate in the district-level decision making processes to establish and review the goals and objectives of the PE/Health department as it relates to the Strategic PlanIII. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION IMPROVEMENT:A. Monitor and observe Health/PE curriculum implementation in classrooms and offer insight for the enhancement of teaching and learningB. Demonstrate and model effective instructional practices for campus leaders and classroom teachersC. Establish and support Health/PE professional learning communities, including organizing and/or facilitating share sessionsD. Demonstrate conflict resolution skills with staff, colleagues, administrators and teachersE. Work with principals and teachers to analyze and monitor achievement in the areas of Health/PEF. Work collaboratively with campus administration in the achievement of district and campus goalsG. Understand the needs of the district and create systems to meet those needs.IV. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT:A. Administer budgets and ensure that funds are managed properly and prudentlyB. Review school budgets with coordination between principals and executive directorsC. Serve as resource person to building principals regarding program budgetsD. Budget for and provide resources, including professional and instructional materials, equipment, software, hands-on materials, etcV. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS:A. Lead and participate on the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)B. Facilitate communication among teachers of the same disciplines and/or coursesC. Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members as neededD. Articulates the district's mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the communityVI. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT:A. Actively seek to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiencesB. Actively participate in professional organizations (such as TAPHERD, NTAC, etc...) in order to learn about current trends/practices within Health/PE and deliver relevant insights back to District teachers/staff.C.
