SUMMARY: Performs and oversees custodial services at assigned elementary school site to ensure an attractive, sanitary, safe, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include cleaning, preparing, inspecting, and maintaining facilities and grounds; monitoring building systems; supervising, training, scheduling, planning, and evaluating personnel as assigned; monitoring building systems; responding to immediate safety and/or operational concerns; ordering supplies; and maintaining equipment.

Job Tasks Descriptions
1. Cleans and inspects assigned facilities and grounds, including classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc., to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive educational environment. Uses proper personnel protective equipment as deemed necessary by the product manufacturer.Replenishes daily use classroom and rest room supplies, such as paper towels, soap, etc.

2. Supervises personnel as assigned to maximize the efficiency of the work force and to evaluate performance. Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and assisting supervisor with interviewing and hiring, appraising performance, disciplining, and terminating employees. Communicates with staff regarding daily emails from Custodial Supervisor(s) and administration. Trains assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills on all equipment and materials. Oversees assigned custodial personnel and facility maintenance activities to ensure functions are performed efficiently and in compliance with site requirements and established standards.

3. Consults with administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial staff for daily activities and special events. Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors and takes appropriate action.Monitors students and staff in and around work areas to prevent injuries and ensure site safety.

4. Monitors building systems and responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns during and after standard hours.Duties include checking boilers to ensure they are working in a safe manner, identifying/reporting facility damage and vandalism, monitoring and responding to alarms, etc.Takes appropriate action, notifies appropriate personnel for resolution, and supports site maintenance staff as needed.

5. Prepares the school and/or grounds for activities and special events, including setting up chairs, stages, backdrops, bleachers, etc.

6. Performs minor, job-related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g., change vacuum belts, vacuum bags, replace light bulbs, repair minor plumbing problems, etc.).Transports required tools, equipment, supplies, and materials to the required site within the building/grounds.

7. Prepares site for daily operations, including opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways, etc. and removing snow from main entries, steps, doorways and entry sidewalks.

8. Performs daily perimeter checks of facilities and grounds, including securing doors, windows, and gates; activating/deactivating alarm systems; turning on/off lights; etc.

9. Orders custodial supplies and maintains equipment.Delivers supplies, equipment, mail, packages, furniture, etc. to appropriate parties and/or storage locations within the building.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
* High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 6 months of custodial experience.
* Experience preferred in supervision and/or facilities maintenance.
* Criminal background check required for hire.
* English language skills - Oral and written communication skills, Interpersonal relations skills, Supervisory skills, Basic math skills, Bilingual language skills preferred.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance expectations and to follow district procedures for absence reporting.
* Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures.
* Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
* Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
* Basic operating knowledge of custodial cleaning equipment required at hire.
* Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.; and office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc. preferred at hire; required within 3 months after hire
* Operating knowledge of basic hand tools preferred at hire.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and assisting with interviewing and hiring, appraising performance, disciplining, and terminating employees. Initiates requisitions for supplies to maintain needed inventory. Makes recommendations regarding acquisition of equipment.
