Salary: $15.03 Hourly Location : Cocoa, FL Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 25-026 Department: Public Works / Facilities Opening Date: 11/05/2024 Closing Date: 11/19/2024 12:00 AM Eastern JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Supervisor II, performs light manual work involving limited skills in various building and custodial tasks. The Custodial Worker performs janitorial duties, limited grounds-keeping and building maintenance and assists with treatment plan maintenance when required. Employee is responsible for labor tasks requiring the use of commercial cleaning tools and equipment, the upkeep and efficient operation of the tools and/or equipment used. Instructions are usually received verbally and routine scheduled work is performed with considerable independence. Specialized work is performed under the Supervision of the Supervisor II. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Operates power floor scrubber, vacuum cleaners, squeegees, brooms and other cleaning related equipment used in building and custodial maintenance.
  • Performs janitorial work such as sweeping, mopping, windows, and general cleanup.
  • Applies concentrated cleaners to floors and plant equipment.
  • Restocks hand towels, soap and other cleaners.
  • The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site.
  • Removes trash, and cleans restrooms and showers.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in building and custodial maintenance. Ability to operate commercial floor maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEQUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED certificate; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Special Qualifications: For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLSPHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Climbing: Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or ramps.
  • Crouching: Ability to frequently bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Feeling: Ability to perceive attributes of objects by touch.
  • Dexterity: Primarily with fingers, as in picking, pinching, or typing.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure with the whole hand.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Kneeling: Ability to frequently bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions.
  • Pulling / Pushing: Ability to occasionally move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Reaching: Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Speaking / Talking: Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely through speech.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: Ability to frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision.
  • Walking: Ability to walk long distances to perform tasks and to move from one job site to another.
