The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Custodian Group Leader for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position leads, oversees, and trains a small group of Custodians in the performance of routine custodial duties and basic maintenance and repair of related University facilities and equipment.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

* May assume responsibility for a building, a group of buildings, or a campus sector.

* May assume responsibility for maintaining inventories, work orders and other written forms.

* Performs all duties of a Custodian as required.

* Coordinates assignments to comply with schedules.

* Orders and issues supplies to Custodians,

* Plans and reports work and time phasing for crew assignments and other projects.

* May distribute pay and resolve routine problems; may maintain inventories and work orders.

* Oversees and performs maintenance and repair of custodial equipment using hand tools.

* Performs all duties of a Custodian as required

* May perform duties of the foreperson on a fill-in basis.

* Detects faulty operation of equipment.

* Reports unusual conditions to supervisor.

* Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

* Two years experience in custodial work.

Certifications/Licenses

* Valid driver's license and two years driving experience, and the successful completion the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Ability to read, write and speak English as commensurate with job duties and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

* Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions

* Schedule Monday through Friday 2:30 pm to 11 pm

* Clean Driving Record
