Job Description Title- Custodian Reports To: Principal FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Job Goal: To provide excellent custodian and grounds keeping services so that facilities are well maintained, comfortable and efficient education and work environments. Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to perform and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using unites of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with students, and staff of the school.
  • Skills and Physical Abilities:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee will frequently bend twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. such as bulk furniture or trash. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and floor machines. The employee be required to lift trash over head depending on trash receptacle.
    • Ability to climb ladders.
    • Basic knowledge of plumbing such as shutting off toilets, etc.
    • Able to tolerate cleaning supplies and odors associated with these cleaning agents.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    Performance Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsDaily:
  • Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage of cleaning supplies and disposal of trash.
  • Help maintain building and grounds security in the building each school day.
  • Outside entrances and grounds security in the buildings each school day.
  • Outside entrances should be cleaned before students arrive each day.
  • Restrooms: sweep and mop floors, clean fixtures, mirrors, etc. Keep supplied with toilet tissue and paper towels.
  • Empty trash cans;
  • Clean water fountains;
  • Pick up paper, cans, bottles, and other trash on campus;
  • Keep all floors and rugs in a clean and attractive condition.
  • Make sure the building is secure in the afternoon.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the principal of the local school.
  • As Needed:
  • Maintenance of school grounds: grass cutting, trim hedges, etc.
  • Sweep, run leaf blower or use pressure washer to keep sidewalks clean.
  • Dispose of boxes, books, etc. as requested.
  • Replace light bulbs;
  • Clean glass doors, windows, inside and outside.
  • Mop floors (at least once per week) and clean mop heads;
  • Wax floors;
  • Move furniture or equipment as required for various activities and as directed by principal;
  • Clean outside of trophy cases;
  • Clean baseboards and corners;
  • Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance and repairs.
  • Keep principal informed of potential problems or unusual events and responds to inquiries and custodial and other concerns in a timely manner.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the principal of the local school.
  • Terms of employment: 222-days Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned.
