Posting DetailsPosition Information Position Title Custodian I - FT Department Physical Plant Location Lincoln Job Category Support Staff Job Type FT Posting Number 01938 Position End DatePosition Summary Information General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of a Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian I maintains an inventory of cleaning equipment and supplies and ensures they are properly used. Responsible for cleanliness, sanitation, and orderliness both inside and outside of the building, and for the removal of waste, and making regular inspections to ensure maintenance of cleaning standards and safe building conditions. In addition, Southeast Community College makes available to all full-time employees the use of Ben Dollars (cash-in-lieu potential for certain coverage levels) to cover medical and dental premiums.Essential FunctionsClean All Aspects of Assigned AreaClean and disinfect sinks, toilets, and trash receptacles.Clean and fill toilet paper and paper towel dispensers.Clean mirrors, handrails, floors, glass doors, windows, window ledges, coat racks, file cabinets, blinds, shelves, tables, chairs, chalkboards, dry-erase boards, ceilings, diffusers, and air ducts.Empty trash cans and replace liners. Vacuum carpets.Put down hi-dri safety absorbent after oil spills.Apply finish and sealer after stripping, to tile and concrete floors, ramps, and steps.Clean floor drains with a shovel and scraper, removing sand, gravel, and sludge with a shovel.Lift and dump the materials from the drain into the waste barrel and dispose of them.Secure AreaMake sure all doors are locked before leaving the area.Room Set-upsTransport tables and chairs for classroom/area set-ups and return them to storage after the event.Install floor coverings.Pull out bleachers, set up stage and podium, and set up sporting equipment.Safety and SecurityUnderstand the dangers and safety precautions in the use of chemicals.Make sure employees wear appropriate protective articles. Keep emergency eye wash stations in working order.Put out wet floor signs when appropriate and remove them when floors are dry.Promote/Support the Organizational Environment through Goal 9 of the Strategic PlanPromote and support the College's organizational environment goals. Commit to fostering and maintaining a safe environment of respect and inclusion for students, employees, and members of the community, and promote and support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, EEO, equity, inclusion, and diversity.Marginal FunctionsPerform minor repairs to janitorial machines.Clean buffer pads for reuse.Restock cleaning carts and area janitor closets.Water plants.Spray for insects.Assist with snow removal.Make sure the building is cleared and no one re-enters in case of fire. Phone in alarm, attempt a response to fire if appropriate.May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of custodial supplies, materials, and equipment. Skill and ability to use this knowledge as in the use of some hazardous cleaning products.Ability to cradle 55-gallon drums of cleaning materials with assistance.Ability to move approximately 100 lbs a short distance with assistance.Ability to move approximately 50 lbs 30 feet.Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public.Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using the established practices, procedures, and policies of the college and directives of the supervisor.Ability to operate a cellular phone in an emergency.Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.Ability to use basic computer skills.The individual must possess the skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications High School graduate or GED.One (1) year of successful work experience in the custodial area.Able to safely work with cleaning chemicals.
