Position Type: Maintenance/CustodialDate Posted: 11/5/2024Location: Bear Creek SchoolClosing Date: 11/19/2024POSITION TITLE: Custodian 1 STATUS: Full Time; 12 months (260 days), scheduled hours 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. (8 hours per day with 30 min unpaid lunch break) BUILDING: Bear Creek CATEGORY: Support DEPARTMENT: Building and Grounds EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Non Exempt REPORTS TO: Lead Custodian 2 and/or Custodial Supervisor SUPERVISES: None MINIMUM PAY RATE: $14.42/hour General Responsibilities/Job Summary: Duties involve cleaning buildings and moving furniture and supplies. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with specific instructions and existing precedents, practices, and procedures. Work involves physical effort and exposure to the elements and potential work hazards. Position may require working non-traditional hours and occasional weekend hours. Essential Functions/Duties:
- Clean rooms, windows, walls, vents, fixtures, furniture, and heaters to inspection specifications
- Scrub sinks, strip/mop/wax/buff floors, vacuum carpets, shine chrome, dust equipment, clean commodes, and disinfect bathrooms assuring safety to building occupants and visitors
- Identify the need for and perform minor repairs and report major repairs
- Shovel snow, salt sidewalks
- Attend work regularly and on time and complete assigned tasks
- Activate and deactivate security system
Additional Responsibilities
- Pick up, and properly dispose of trash
- Move furniture, set up room furniture and equipment
- Unload, store, and distribute designated supplies
- Clean and disinfect assigned areas which may include daily dusting, dry and wet mopping floors, arranging furniture and cleaning chalk/white boards
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect restrooms including all plumbing fixtures, wall mirrors, partitions and floors daily
- Use REEL foam disinfectant system in all large restrooms weekly
- Dust computers, clean and disinfect student desks, vacuum carpets, strip and wax floors, clean sinks and counter area as needed and replenish custodial supplies
- Disinfect all common surfaces per training instructions
- Empty all pencil sharpeners as needed, empty all trash cans and dispose of waste properly including recycling daily
- Correct or report all maintenance issues, fire hazards, or safety and security issues to supervisor immediately
- Lock all windows and doors and make sure they are latched
- Change light bulbs as needed
- Refer to specific building Custodial Duty List/Schedule
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, reach, lean, handle, finger, feel, talk, hear, see, push, pull, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Understand and follow oral and written procedures, directives and instructions
- Must attend training and acquire Hillyard certification for Level One-Basic Cleaning, Level Two-Intermediate Cleaning, Level Three-Advanced Cleaning within the first year of employment
- Some Knowledge of custodial hazards and related safety precautions
- Knowledge of custodial principles and practices
- Ability to judge distance from objects
- Ability to determine when areas are clean
- Ability to read and understand basic operating instructions, labels and correspondence
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and in working relations with associates, district staff, and vendors
- Willingness to attend and participate in job specific and safety training
- This position is a non-exempt position and is entitled to overtime pay as defined under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The working of overtime, while not a regular occurrence, may be required when directed by the supervisor and or director of this position.
- Ability to expeditiously learn and effectively use custodial equipment including various size ladders, scaffolding and powered equipment
- Ability to perform minor repairs
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates, district staff, vendors and general public
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education and Training: Read and write at a Ninth Grade Level
