Job Description:
Description: Responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff in school buildings; maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of the building; responsible for minor maintenance during and after school year. Essential Functions:
  • Ensure safety of students.
  • Request needed equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and neat boiler room.
  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop all floors on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails and pencil sharpeners as daily.
  • Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in all school building restrooms as needed.
  • Remove cobwebs, clean windows and whiteboards as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize all drinking fountains and polish exterior and hardware. Assist with changing filters as needed.
  • Damp clean/sanitize the tops of student used surfaces, and door knobs daily.
  • Clean, sanitize and service school building restrooms daily.
  • Inspect all light fixtures, including exit lights, for operating condition. Replace or report all defective, flickering, or burned out lamps. Replace incandescent and fluorescent.
  • Ensure that all exits are accessible. Sweep exterior landings and stairs. Remove snow and ice from landings, stairs, and walkways as required.
  • Keep mops, vacuums, carpet shampooers, buffers, etc. in good repair, report any needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Remove litter from grounds.
  • Put half a gallon of water in each floor drain, bathrooms, air handler rooms, kitchen, wood and metal shop.
  • Remove marks, smudges, and graffiti as needed.
  • Empty cafeteria trash daily.
  • Assist kitchen staff when needed, e.g., open/unlock kitchen, trash removal, unloading/storage of food deliveries.
  • Damp clean locker faces/handles in halls and locker rooms.
  • Clean all exterior windows on the inside. Clean all interior windows including display cases.
  • Complete paperwork as required by the supervisor.
  • Maintain an accurate and timely inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Promote good safety practices and procedures.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required.
  • Report structural, mechanical and other related emergencies immediately your supervisor.
  • Secure buildings or delegate to other custodial staff.
  • Communicate with crew about possible concerns.
  • Assist teachers and staff with procuring furniture from and to storage.
  • Preparation for state and local health inspections.
  • Promote safety and pride in a job well done.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to plow and remove snow from school sidewalks.
  • Serve as role model for students.
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal.
  • Assist building principal in conducting fire and other drills.
  • Assist athletic director when/if necessary.
Qualifications:Qualifications:
  • Successful Colorado Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance.
  • Completion of all district required training with in a reasonable time frame.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the superintendent and/or board of education may find appropriate.

  • Basic knowledge electrical, plumbing, landscaping, maintenance.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to have the flexibility to work after school sporting events as requested by leadership/supervisor.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Effective, active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Additional Working Conditions:
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather conditions i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled work days, including calamity days.
  • Occasional interactions among unruly children.
  • Occasional requirement to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Frequent requirement to walk in excess of 2-3 miles per day, e.g., cleaning, making deliveries.
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g. mopping, sweeping.
  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel and bend.
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items over 50 pounds, e.g., deliveries of supplies and equipment.
  • Frequent use of hazmat procedures.
